Default digging deeper- front coilover

Removed front wheel of my recent purchase to find that the upper mount bushings for the coilovers appear done.... Without removing them right now, does anyone recognize this setup and know what bushings go where. Thinking I may even replace the front coilovers, QA1 seems popular, but I dont know much about them, plus with this being a light car, 302 engine as well, would the 375 spring rates be too soft? Also I do not have the front hoop where most have their upper shock mount, mine secures right at the perch area?

Another shot from another angle, spring is rubbing shock due to worn upper shock bushings. Will replace both springs and shocks once I figure out what will fit, seems to be a short body shock since it cannot travel above upper spring perch

Cobra Make, Engine: Classic 427, I purchased it May 2005, the kit was bought in 1991. I'm not sure when it was completed! Installed GMPP Connect & Cruise 376/525 with T-56 S/M 3.55 gears about 2 years ago! 1/4 miles is with old setup!

I bought my front & real coil overs as well as tubular A-Arms back 2005 or 2006. I though they were QA1?

I have a CR Sebring and since it is a cousin to the CR Cobra, I will attempt to figure out what you have.

The lower control arms and struts are stock MII. The upper control arms are aftermarket, the original MII parts are stamped steel. The cross member looks just like the one that was under my Sebring before I modified it for standard coilovers.

The lower part of the coilover appears to from a kit like this one:

There are a few companies selling versions of this type of MII coilover conversion. Typically, they use a barrel shaped (tapered) spring that fits a 2" coilover at the bottom and is large enough to fit the stock MII spring pocket at the top. I have a much older version of that type of conversion above on my 46 Ford street rod with stock MII suspension.

Yours has been possibly modified to accept a standard coilover spring that is straight. Hopefully, a proper spring pocket was added to the top to keep the spring centered over the shock. If done right, the upper shock bushings do nothing but hold the shock rod. They should not support any weight of the car since they are not designed for that. The spring loads should be supported by the cross member.

I can't remember what the spring rate on my car is. I can check when I get home. I haven't gotten my car back on the road yet, but the rate appears to be about right.

That being said that looks like a "stock" bushing. The Dorman "Help" universal shock kit should work fine.

ordered some QA1 coilovers today, will get tommorrow. We will see if they are a direct fit. May have to reuse my old springs due to upper perch. Will advise. also ordered a set of Eibach springs in 350lb version just in case.

Time to order new lca's, return the eibachs and use the springs with the qa1 setup. Seems the prior owner shoved full hatred coilovers unto the pocket.... the lca on the vehicle is only shock eye width. Needed new lower ball joints anyway..

Yes, I installed the same rubber isolators. If not, there will be horrible noise up there. You are on the correct path.

I'm still a little high in the rear with adjuster all the way out. Have a set 9f 200in/lb springs on the way to try. Hoping to get the rear to sit lower without compromising ride. Could even try 175 in/lb springs if needed. But with 375 springs in the front. Want to stay in a decent relationship.

Of course update us. I have 250’s in the rear also and believe it will be too stiff. Won’t know until I get lost together for the weight. Springs are cheap at least.
