The rear Monroe shock Monro Matic 5876 crosses to number 32207 but this nitrogen gas shock is for a heavier car and will give you a hard ride.
The VW Shock #113-413-031-B is for early VWs and are oil shocks valved for softer ride. The first Classics were VW based kits they already had VW shocks to use.
Use the VW, the gas shocks are noticeably harder ride
The Gabriel Red Ryders are gas valved for a heavier car too and ride hard as you well know
Front shocks use a oil shock too if you can find one. Oil is a softer ride

Evidentally the rear shock is 55-70 VW Beetle. Front shock is 65-76 Cadillac Deville. I like the KYB Gas -A- Just. Firmer but better handling.

i no longer know whether knowing the original part brand and part number really helps here as i don't think these brands produced exact same specifications with these part numbers...it seems to me from a broader search the dimension of monroe part numbers stated are different than mine...
perhaps then the only option left is sticking to open and close dimensions and get something that just suits that ??
kinda tricky business, i thought by now it would be easier to know what kind of shocks can go to a Classic Roadster chassis + body structure...i.e. which options work ok...suppose everyone is running on similar dimensions ?

oww sorry it seems i missed to click page 2 to read rest of comments...
once again, apologies Jim, so based on the dimensions i gave you, what do you think are the best options for front and rear ? do you mind giving me the specifications (brand and part no's) so i check if i can order online ? i suppose these will not be available in SummitRacing ?
yes, i dont want a too hard drive, it was the case before and i agree, possibly the existing shocks on the car are for heavier cars ?

little confused as well if KYB Gas mentioned here is an option to VW and Cadillac ? thinking about sourcing constraints, perhaps i should focus on front and rear shocks that i can get supplied easier than others ?

To get the softer ride you said you wanted use regular shocks for a VW rear and a Caddy front. They should be easy to find and the VW number is good.
I put KYB shocks on my 86 Corvette and now it rides firm and I feel every bump.
I like it just sayin it’s different

Jim, Thank you for the links.
I’m taking part numbers from Arturs threads and you are helping me too.
Merry Christmas

I second Skycrafts post. Why not consider it? I started a thread "rear coil over conversion" and it looks like Skykcraft, Ronkahn have found all the parts you'd need from Summit and Outcast. Rgbray1 started a thread "Kirk...we are under attack" that has his conversion journey. I don't know if the Foxbody lower coil mounts would work on the rear you have, nor if a fox 8.8 is available where you are, but there's tons of examples of 9" rear coil brackets guys have made with plans available on here. MaSnaka has some great pics of the ones he had made up.
Here's my parts list
QA1's QA1-DS602 $343/pair https://www.summitracing.com/parts/QA1-DS602
Coils QA1-14HT250B $107/pair https://www.summitracing.com/parts/QA1-14HT250B
Lower mounts LMR MM-MMSM2 $66/pair https://lmr.com/item/MM-MMSM2/79-04-...hock-Mount-Kit
Upper mounts Outcast Autoworks $70/pair https://www.outcastautoworks.com/col...31206264242227
I'm planning on starting my install right away, but it's essentially the same as Skycraft and Ronkahn.
While your in there, you could upgrade to the upper control arms of your choice and replace bushings/bearings for a few hundred bucks.
As for the front end, maybe take the opportunity to do the same

If a person wanted to use KYB Gas-A-Just in the front, you could substitute the 63-82 Corvette front shock and remove the bar pin. Cut one side off and press out. The rear VW shock is available.

Way back in the 90’s up to about 2008 Classic Roadsters had their own forum that was very very good. Don Scott (the owner at the time and the person that scienced out most of the car) was always there answering questions. He offered a coilover upgrade and a regular shock upgrade. Don always suggested Proshocks because they were hydraulic not gas. He said the gas shocks were always too rough. At the time, Proshocks was very familiar wit CR and knew exactly what part numbers you needed.

I got the pro shock coil overs from CRII just before they closed. I had to replace the rear shocks because the wrong ones were provided by CR. Pete was the guy I was dealing with over there. Like G said Don recommended the hydraulic over gas. There was a guy at pro shock that was very helpful...you could call and speak to him on the phone. I think they were purchased by another company although I could be wrong, but the customer service disappeared, hopefully I'm wrong about that too. I found my ride height and sized the shock travel so it would be centered. 2" up and 2" down as an example, that was a long time ago and I dont remember exactly what it is. Its bumpy and gives a firm ride with very little if any body roll, like a sports car. Great for cruising, great for the track, not my daily driver.

What nobody has mentioned here, is the factor of tire size/width. If one is running a skinny tire, they will have quite a few more inches in suspension travel. My car with a 295 rear which measures to a 305mm leaves me a paltry 2 1/2" of rear suspension travel before wrecking my fiberglass. Hence, those inches don't afford me a soft cushy ride, as most of us are looking to plant as much rubber possible to the ground.
Merry Christmas to y'all.

295/50/15 rears here too, went from 225 lb rate springs to 250lb rate, will have to see how it rides. I did bottom out occasionally with the 225. thsi was prior to my rear coilover conversion
