Seat Pan, lower it?
Ok, next question. With it being easier now than later, is it worth dropping the two seat pans about 2” each side on my CRI? I know the CRII’s were lowered 4” according to the posts, but it is now or never for me to modify it before they end of the build. Like she said, is two inches worth it?

No your already at bottom of frame. Get the 2” by removing seat track.
You sit 4” lower than Shelbys in all Classic Roadsters.
Don Scott cut out the floorpan up front and lowered it to bottom of frame with a steel piece for the floor.

So are the side rails of the frame even different? You don’t think it would beneficial to lower them a couple inches? I need the seat tracks for different people to drive it….

Same rails, CRIIs have a steel floor at bottom of frame up front. Don added to an existing frame.
Seat mounts didn’t change, the body’s stayed the same. The FOOT area was made bigger.

The strange thing is, when I was at the London Cobra show, I saw and sat in a CRII with the lowered seat pan, but I was unable to take pictures before he left. He let me sit in it, and it was low. I liked it, but the seat pan looked to be all at an angle and made the seat recline too much. So, while I have it still in build stage, I was thinking of lowering the seat pan down about 2” to give that little extra room. I am 6’1” with a t tall upper torso, so it would possibly help. I was hoping someone else here could take a picture or measurement of the pan so i can see exactly how it is set up.

Yes, that is exactly what mine looks like. You don’t think it would hold to cut out the two bars that run across, and make a solid plate that is lower by a couple inches? I know I would have to make side pieces to extend the pan down, but if it is noteworthy it, I won’t. Just looking to any and all upgrades, within reason, now while I have the opportunity.

That’s a lot of work, you create a frame to body seal issue, you are already dragging the ground…
Let’s see, do all that or remove seat tracks.
I don’t let people drive my hot rod it is real awkward when they break it.

I spoke to Bill Emerson a while back. His frames are based on CR's. He has a fully welded plate in floor pan to help with rigidity. I think its about 1" up from the bottom and welded inside the side railes and it lowers the seats.

I will take a look at it. From what others say, the work to change it isn’t worth it. I might gain an inch but what real help will that be? I might just leave it alone.

I did this to my CR and gained about an inch and a half. That may not sound like much but it made the car far more enjoyable to ride in, especially long distances. I only did the driver side.

I think its worth doing if you don't have to tear the car apart. I sat in one that's being built, and my head is at the top edge of the windshield, so we removed the seat cushion, and I sit more centered in the windshield, and I sit at a height where the roll bar (properly designed, not just a cosmetic one) will actually protect me, without being lengthened and sitting way to high. While I'm at it, I want to see if the fab shop can narrow up the trans tunnel to widen the foot well.

The Emerson frame pix are in the “Emerson mods to CRII frame “ thread.
Steel plate at bottom of frame on 3” wide outside frame piece and 1” up on main 2” x 4” inside frame rail. It scales out in the photo.
That is an Emerson rite?
Photo 2 in this thread shows the back seat mount at bottom of frame same as an Emerson’s would be. Front is 1” higher for some seat tilt.
After measuring them the seat sliders are only 3/4” thick.
CR seat shells have a 3/4” bubble on bottom they almost touch floor with slider on seat.

Got one side done!
Well, got one side tacked in place. Looks great. I was able to keep the exact same angle of the original seat pan braces, but now a larger pan. I was able to lower the seat about 1 3/4” which will help the position of my head in the windshield. I will do the other side next week.

Your side pipe should hide that mod, but now you'll need to modify the side pipe bracket.
