Non-Cobra Project

Sorry Mike, about not getting back to you, yes everything's good here ;) I've been doing a few (Non-Cobra) things, wintertime listening pleasure. As you may know, I love my Vintage Stereo piece's (70's-80's) "Wattages wars". So, I've been adding to my "Luxman" Stereo systems, Luxman is considered the Japanese version of "McIntosh" America's best. On AudioKarma (Vintage Stereo web site), my handle there is LuxmanTom, and in 15+years of collecting, I've never had a Luxman turntable (Way too much money!!!) Surprise!! One came up I could afford, so I decided to build a new (Vintage) system around it. A Luxman LV series amp, McIntosh MVP series CD/DVD player, Luxman PD-series turntable, and Rock 'in Cerwin-Vega's speakers. I'll call you this week Mike, Cheers Tom.

Nice looking system Tom, glad you finally got your turntable. For a 'Non-Cobra' project, it must be the only one with Cobra valve covers installed and Ken Miles at the controls! :) Brent

You know Brentster, I had to have some Cobra pieces around it ;) Funny you mentioned that Poster, some chap (I believe he owns a Silver Cobra also) not only gave that to me, but went the extra mile (and this is one busy dude), brought the poster, built the frame, and presented to me, at our last get together :) And what did I get him, an old Antique DOG DISH !! For his Hound Dogs (Larry & Leon) I'd say he got the short end of that one !! If anyone else is reading this, it was Brent (Thank you Sir) that gave me the poster, Cheers Tom. Now back to Cobra stuff.

Dennis, that's Me to a Tee!!! Even have the long hair STILL. A tad thinner on top. Have you ever seen one of these turntable's before, before buying this one, I never knew they existed?? And I thought I knew All the high-end TT. The lady said it was her grandfather's favorite stereo piece, I said no way this from the 70's, he told her he brought it in 1974, pretty cool HUH? She was right these were built in 1973-74  Cheers Tom. Sorry about it being up-side down, maybe Brent or Glen can fix that.

Tom,

Any interest in a RCA RE-75 Radio-Phonograph (1929)?

Too old for me Bill, and it's too bad most of the people that collected them, have aged out, or just gone. No one Seem's to collect them anymore, too bad as they were great sounding AM pieces. The newer gen. still like my vintages piece's because you can get 100+dbl level's out of those. I grew up with Solid state age, just couldn't afford like I can now. You're is still worth something as Vintage Furniture. Email me a picture or two Bill K?

Actually, I did see one of those in a magazine, probably 1973, I thought it was pretty far out! Cheers, Dennis

I like those radios, plus the added bonus of a phonograph, that is really great! I have an Atwater Kent 627 Cathedral radio on it's original stand, still works. I remember when the Beatles came to America, we were sitting in the living room and one of my friends said, "will that radio get modern stations?" So my Dad fired it up, and just happened, The Beatles She Loves You, was playing. My Dad listened for a bit, then said, "I think she loves him, then paused and said, yah yah!" Great memories. Cheers, Dennis

I bought this Zenith 4V31 Tombstone battery radio, to put my PC in, after seeing a Steam Punk article on that. My PC gave out before I got it, so it sat for several years. It was a complete mess, in the wiring, you literally could not see any metal through all the melted wires and capacitors, I think it may have been given to a teenager to play with. I wish I had taken a photo! This year I decided to go with a satellite radio, but wasn't that thrilled by the speakers. Then I remembered, we live in the 21st century, so Bluetooth speakers. I got a set with a remote, but the signal would not penetrate the cabinet. No problem, all I needed was on off, so I plugged the speakers into a surge protector extension, problem solved! Then the Bluetooth signal would not work, I tried elevating the speaker, that received the signal, no joy. Then I simply turned it upside down and it now works every time. I was not expecting much sound wise, two small plastic speakers in a wood box, but I think it sounds better, and others have commented how good it sounds. I bought some Kevlar string to get the Z needle to work, that was fun, plus I added two more 5v lights in the form of LED bulbs, I wanted the yellow glow, so I bought some Tamiya Clear Yellow paint, plus a phone charger to power the lights plus felt washers for the knobs, rubber feet for the chassis, and more. Well worth the two months of work as you can see. http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...ictureid=20460 http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...ictureid=20461

Indeed, you did Dennis, this pretty much tell the story of this "Work of Art" although it didn't mention that there is one of these in The Museum of Modern Art in NYC. I believe the final count is somewhere in the 300-400 units. Cheers Tom. https://theturntableshop.com/unusual...ntable-review/

Unfortunately Bill, these are about top prices for pieces like yours, I'd say keep & enjoy it, Cheers Tom. https://seattle.craigslist.org/see/clt/7536971540.html

Just a little different, but yes, I suspect $800-$1,000 as it sits. Just an art form from a previous generation that took pride in their work.

Both are beautiful pieces (Bill & Dennis) even the org speaker grille Bill. Again, unfortunately the people into these are no longer collecting to use for their sound. Case in point: A good friend Ken, was the head of the tube radio club here in Washington, everyone (Club Members) drooled over his collection, he won't sell any for "Love or Money". So, when the time came for his widow to sell them, we let every club member know, that they get first chance to buy his "Great" collection, we (I) don't know what they were worth, in today's world, found out real quick, they were offering $.10 on the dollar for them, and they were the only one interested in them. At the Estate sale, those that would left, weren't sold at any price. I've learned when I go, mine will sent to different museums and special friends that will cherish them, as I did. Money won't mean too much to me after I'm Gone!!
