Ok, after more measuring today, I have another problem, maybe. I have a later model 8.8 rear end that is wider than others, and therefore causing a problem. If I go with just what fits with this setup:

1. rears 17x11 rims, with a 7.25" backspace, leaves me 4" deep front dish in wheel
2. fronts 17x9.5 rims with a 5" backspace, leaves me 5" deep front dish in wheel
3. just put much skinnier front wheels and tires, (NOT wanting).

Yes, both the rear 315x35/17 rears and 275x40.17 fronts tires fit everywhere, full droop, ride height, and full compression.

BUT, as you can see, my front rims would have a 1" deeper wheel dish than the rears. Not what I want. I guess the two options are to:
1. narrow the rear axle to be two inches total narrower, 1" each side, so the wheels are identical. I don't think I would have enough room to narrow more without other major modifications. I don't want to do that.
2. just put 1" spacers (or more) on the front hubs and order a narrower dish wheel so the fronts are the same depth or even shallower than the rears.

Thoughts? anyone else have the same issue?

The Fox and the SN95 housings are basically the same
Ford used 5 bolt 31 spline 3/4” longer axels with a disc brake flange to make the SN95 1 1/2” wider rear end
Strange has these axels 3/4” shorter for Fox cars at $550 including c clip eliminators
You can get brackets to move the brakes in 3/4”
It’s 1 1/2” not 2” but close
