Front wheel offsets
So I purchased the shelby wheels for the classic roadster cobra, they are 5" offset on front, they seem to be in from the fender lip, its a 1991 kit, what are you all running for front offsets?

Same.

Have not bought mine yet, but will use 5" as my starting point. I have an offset calculator tool to get the widest tire all around while still keeping the tire/rim inside the lip. Its all about stance right?

Vintage wheels sells the choice for CR as:
Front- 2 x 15 x 8 with 5.0 backspace Rear- 2 x 15 x 10 with 6.0 backspace The wheels that came with the CR kits typically were 15" X 8" with 3.75" backspace. |

These are the wheels I have, I have 5" on front, with a 2" spacer it puts it where it should be

I’ve got Compomotive 16 x 8 on the front 3 3/4” backspace recommend by Don Scott
Fits great no more tire room on outside and inside has 1” or maybe more extra tire space. |

I am still wrestling with my choice for wheels.
Several years ago, I purchased a set of used 5 pin knock off Cobra II wheels. They came with the adapters. They are front- 7.5 X 15 & rear 9.5 X 15. When I finally got around to test fitting them, I discovered the fronts were a good fit, but the rear stuck out about almost 2"! Now I have a choice of narrowing the rear end by 2" per side or selecting completely different wheels. And, as I consider my choices, I keep in mind that tire choices in 15" are quickly reducing. I have a pair of American Racing torq Thrust chrome 9.5 X 17 wheels. They look nice with the paint & chrome side pipes. But they are not the Halibrand style knock off wheels. And a new pair for the front are about $300 each. That is about the cost of narrowing the rear end with new axles. My car, being a CR I, is not an exact replica by any means. It is more similar to an 80's AC Cobra from the UK that has been stretched. Wide body, full dash, small block 302 w/EFI, & T5. If you Google "Sunburst wheels" on Holley's site, it shows a CR in green with the Sunburst 5 lug wheels. It would be my choice- but they seem to now be out of production. Decisions, decisions! |
