Steering Column Question

Another question from the project car from....
My new project has a steering column from a Chevette which is out of the car. I have read the manual front to rear and don't find anything about mounting the column. I notice on my column, there is a flange w/ a hole in about a third up from the bottom that prevents it from going thru the hole in the firewall. If I decide to use this columm, do i cut off the flange? If I were to go with a diferent column, what recommendations do you guys have for a substitute. Thanks for helping me keep my sanity. Chuck

Take the Chevette column and get your money back. DV makes a column just for this setup.

Chuck, You can use the Chevette column if you like. The piece at the bottom does need to be cut off. There are 2 brackets that mount in the upper holes of the column. The column is then mounted to the cowl bar with 1 bolt. At the other end there is an extension tube with a nylon bushing. Once the column is mounted I also make a bracket at the firewall to hold the column from any side to side movement. The column that DV sells is complete and just need to be mounted. Also in your manual on page 7-14 is the section for mounting the column.

If you do decide to use the Chevette column, use Borgeson collapsable shafting, joints, and vibration damper. The CR supplied shaft won't collapse and if you hit something...well, you get the point. DV's column collapses.
