Default Any new talk of an IRS conversion

Awhile back there was some mention of someone looking into setting up an IRS kit and was wondering if anyone has done anything yet in this direction?

I know DV was working on one but the cost was pretty high. I'm working with a guy now to modify the T-Bird 8.8 to fit so I'll see what comes of it. The cost seems to get high no matter what but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Bob,

Don is right. Seems no matter what we do the price is high! Don is looking to get one to fit. We've been working on one that is actually engineered to the CR's frame, matching front to rear, shocks, sway bars and brakes.

Either one would be a plus. I insist on a double wishbone set up, with a full 4 wheel alignment. Just can't seem to find the magic rabbitt!

I have one of my set ups in my personal DV and it was over 6K! Not many guys willing to shell out 6K or better to switch.

However we did, along with other minor mods went from a .78(?) G, to a 1.2+ G on a skid pad!

DV...we're still working on it, it will happen!

I plan on building one this winter for my B & B. Found a complete
supercoupe 8.8 posi IRS at the junkyard for $250. Plan to custom
fabricate 4 ea. "A" arms with adjustments & a center cage for the
8.8. Shorten the axles, buy rebuilt calipers & new rotars. I plan to build this as a complete unit that just bolts in. With my own wire feed welder it should cost about $1000. Jay

Over here we have a 9inch ford conversion that fits into the jag IRS. Cost is about $1600.00 US which includes everything except diff centre.

WOW, I cannot believe how great this website is for information. Considering that I'm looking at you guys as being the "Help Mister Wizards" (Cobra Gods), I think I'll hold off, unless some major rearend disaster comes up, which I doubt, due to the car's proven realiability, I'll just stay with the shortened Ford 9 inch. I think I will start hitting a few Pick-your-parts, with a tape measure and if I ever find something, maybe try a "bench build".
Thanks for you time, Happy Holidays

Jack,
Excellent company! Concourse is the company we contracted to built the DV II rear ends. Pricey isn't exactly a fair description though. I think "First Born" should be thrown in their somewhere.

The only thing I don't like, is that it is still a single whish bone rear end.

DV...ratchet, 9/16's socket, flade blade screw driver or a quarter for the fasteners, we can change the gears, (through the trunk!), replace the 1/2 qt. of rear end fluid and be back on the track in 55 seconds flat!

You people who want double wishbone IRS might want to check underneath a - shock horror - Pantera! Double wishbone, outboard disc brakes, trick sliding half shafts (so no bind) and aftermarket billet wishbone/A-arms available too. For custom Quickchange Jag style IRS try Darrell Zip at Zipper Motors - www.zippermotors.com. For Ford 9 inch based IRS try Kugel Komponents, La Habra California or Gary Heidt at Heidts in Wauconda, Illinois - isn't this internet thing grand!
