Curt,
Sorry it took me so long to resond, I wanted to get another autocross event under my belt to get a better feeling for the car. I do not have a front sway bar. The suspension is basically stock. In Sundays event, I changed air pressures. I went with about 26 lbs. up front and 30 lbs. in the rear. My tires are Firestone Firehawk SZ EPs, 245/45/17 front, 275/40/17 rear. It was definitely better, but I still would say it was quite loose after initial turn in. The front end never seemed to slide, it was always the back. I could control it, but I felt like I was "fighting" the car alot. One encouraging thing was that I kept pretty close to another Cobra that came. He had 500 hp (I have under 300) and race tires. I was within about one second of his times. Do you think a panhard bar would help my car? Steve |
You might want to check with Ed Combs, included in the stuff I sent down for the DVSP II auction was a bracket set (for the pumpkin) of an 8.8" Ford rearend. This is to connect the panhard bar to the pumpkin.

Steve,
I know it sounds almost counter intuitive, but a front sway bar will really help with the rear end coming out. As I stated earlier, tightening up the front end will reduce oversteer. No, you do not need a panhard rod. There are bigger fish to fry with respect to your suspension. Get a front sway bar. The one from CR works pretty good or DV can help you with a manufacturer. For the rear sway bar, go to a junk yard and get a small sway bar off one of the older fox body mustangs. An 81 four cylinder LX or equivalent will do fine. It will be much smaller than the front sway bar. Do not get the CR one. it is way too big and will create oversteer. |
