Default Motor Mounts - Thread that never dies..

I tried to search and find the answer to my question but the more I read the more I became confused.

I purchased my kit at the end of 1997 with the intension of installing a 351w. Which I am now going to install. What Engine mounts do I have? Do I need lowered ones (I would like them If I don't have them) or do I already have the lowered ones? And what isolator mounts do I need?

It wasen't clear when Classic started sending out lowered mounts so I'm not sure what I have. Also, I was starting to look for the Ford Engine isolators D7ZZ-6038-A and D7ZZ-6038-B. But I thought one of the threads indicated these are no longer available? What should I do?

If you have the lowered mounts they have a flat surface for the engine isolator. There is one large hole for a 9/16 bolt and a small locator hole below it. The old mounts had a hold through the side. If you want to use a taller intake such as the Performer RPM then you will need the lower mounts for hood clearance.
The new engine isolators are a Napa# 602-1639. They are from a newer style Mustang GT.

As far as I know the Ford mounts for the old brackets are no longer available.

The 351W motor mounts I use have the horizontal bolt through them to attach them to the chassis. They are the early (60's) style.

Anchor brand, part # 2287 about $24 each

Default Motor Mounts

Still somewhat confused. Here is a pic of what I have. They appear to have a flat mounting area yet also have holes for side attachment. What are they?

Thanks,

I picked up my kit in November so I assume I have the new ones and they look nothing like that. They are 2 pieces of flat steel welded like a hinge, with a stiffener in between to keep pieces at a proper angle. If you need some pictures to help out let me know. Also the motor mount part numbers you posted earlier is what I installed in the car last month. Seem to align everything properly.

Jim, Those are the old style mounts that use the Ford isolators.

The thread that never dies, never dies, because CR in it's infinite wisdom (there I go again, sorry) proclaimed that one size fits all as far as small blocks were concerned. The "School Solution" for 351W motors was don't use a Performer RPM intake so the air cleaner would fit under the hood.

The field solution was cut the factory frame mounts down 3/4" - 7/8", re-weld them, and then your Performer RPM/Wiand Stealth would fit just fine.

Then Energy-Suspension introduced polyurethane engine and trans mounts. Instead of the engine shaking, the car rocks a little at idle. But when you nail it, the engine stays put, sidepipes don't hit the body cutouts, and aircleaner doesn't hit the hood.

But the E-S mounts only fit late ('79 - up) Mustang frames. I had a pair of frame mounts that used the ES late Mustang engine mounts, nut ball 14mm bolts , and all. But work it does. Don likes the NAPA mounts. I like the ES mounts. Take your pick.

Sent my cardboard shop mock-ups to CR and they started making them. You should be able to get late Mustang mounts directly from CR with the 3/4" engine drop.

Just remember to check your sidepipe alignment. If the engine drops 3/4", so must the trans, or the engine will tilt foreward, and the sidepipes won't be parallel with the body.

Default Another backordered part....

Called classic a week ago.... Motor mounts are backordered....Do they have anything in stock? A couple pieces of metal welded together, how difficult/expensive is that to keep in stock. Sorry...Rant!

I'm going to make my own if they aren't available by the time my engine get's to my door. I could cut and modify the old mounts but I already purchased the new style Napa issolators. Can I modify the old stye mounts to use the new issolators? Maybe if someone can post a pick of what the new classic mounts look like?

Thanks!

One of these days I'll learn how to post photos here. Send me an e-mail (jwalsh21@ix.netcom.com), and I'll return shots of the frame and motormount setup. Not too hard to get a welding shop to make them up for you.

Default Pictures, please!

Jack21 - I'd really like to see the pictures too - I'm currently scraping the hood with a torkerII/holley combination, and I'd love to see your fix as well.

Thanks,

PS - DV - you've got a thread about mounting 4-point harnesses in a CR, and the thread apparently had pictures at one point. Any chance you've got those archived somewhere too?

Thanks again,

JLW
