If I may,(I get up earlier than Don! ) what you are seeing is correct. IF you measure out the axles-axle tubes you will find one is about 1" longer than the other. In a Mustang, T-Bird, etc. this is hardly noticeable due to the length of the drive shaft.
The off set once installed in the frame is correct.. I know of know one that has ever lost a U-joint for mis-aligment. Now I've snapped a few in my day by a little abuse now and then
Drive on...not a problem!
