How much for unstarted kit?
An individual in my home town has an 8 year old CR kit for sale. The body and frame have been sitting uncovered outside for over 5 years. The individual has a complete 351w and c6 out of a pickup, a 351w basket case, a t-5 tranny, 8.8 drum brake, 8.8 disk brake, headers, mustang II front suspension, sway bar package, cooling package, tonneau, wiper package, and steering column. The individual says everything is essentially there except for the battery. How much would this be worth? How much damage can happen to the fiberglass from 5+ years of sun?
Thanks

The sun really shouldn't hurt the fiberglass unless its been in really harsh conditions. I sometimes have them sitting out side for up to a year. You will probably want to have the frame stripped and repainted. The parts themselves aren't worth too much if everything is used. I would find out what options were purchased with the kit, is the interior all there, all parts that come from Classic? You are taking a chance and may have to purchase missing parts down the road. It's tough to establish a price but I would offer about 2/3 of what he has in it. If you are not sure if everything is there then maybe even less.

I'd offer 1/3 and then let him talk me up to 2/3rds.

He is asking about 2/3 of what he says he has into all parts and the kit, which is less than the original 3 phase kit. Has there been any major changes to the kit? He has assured me that all parts are there to put the car together. If parts are missing, will CR sell them individually? Thanks for the help.

You can buy any part for the car. The major change to the car was the small block frame which gives quite a bit more room in the drivers footbox. You can modify the firewall from the frame you have to increase the size.
Since he wants 2/3 I'd offer him 1/2. That way you should be covered if parts are missing. The expensive parts are the windshield, interior, headers, sidepipes, firewall, and wiring harness. If those are all there along with all the fiberglass then the rest of the parts aren't to expensive.

MSO----MS0----MSO----MSO------
M S O
Did I mention to make absolutely positive he has the MSO?
No? Then run, don't walk!
If he does, 33.3% Would be a fair price. Don's right, never had a problem with the body aging outside. The worst problem would be if it was sitting at an angle or twisted all that time.
DV...Not in Indiana is it?

I thought you couldn't GET the MSO without completing the kit. As this will be a "second" owner before completion can he EVER get one?

MSO = manufacturer's statement of origin
You get the MSO for the frame and body and use the MSO when you go to get a title made for the assembled car.
Some states might allow a bill of sale in leu of a MSO, but you really ought to check with your state before committing $$ to the deal.
