Non traditional? Well, first, I started off with a CR which is non- taditional (albeit, arguably, substaintally improved over the original) to start with. If the original wasan S/C version, than this on is the L/S version.

The dash layouyt is the most obvious. More contemporary. It's wood vener for one. Uses Autometer 5" Pro-Comp speedo & tach, plus 2 1/8" "Z" series gauges. Gauges are the size I can read them, in the priority I need to read them without taking my eyes off the road. Traditional? No. Effective? Yes.

Radio with 6 disc cd changer and electric antenna. Probably won't be able to hear it but if fills the space in dash!

Brushed and hard coat anodized aluminum inner panels.

Wish I could do the body the same way!

5 speed transmission. Love the over drive for highway cruising.

Sorry, I don't mean to hijack this thread.

Jack21 and RockSnake - you guys got any pics of the wooden dashes? Go to the previous thread called " Classic Roadster" to post pics. I would love to see them. We have had a little session going.

Art Burtt - I like that you've got a radio and CD changer. Me too! I have a radio with four 6X9s and two 4"tweeters with a Fosgate Punch 40 and 6 CD Changer in the trunk. The music is clearly heard at 80 mph. No, I am not a young guy who likes all the sub woofers etc. I am an old guy (58) who loves to be able to listen to good music while cruising (quickly sometimes) in his favorite car.

Now I am going to really tick off the purists because I also have an automatic. A C6 with a manual reverse shift valve body and a 2500 stall converter. Although my one son (16 yrs) wants me to put in a stick now that he is old enough to drive. I am considering it

I would hardly know where to start, so I won't...

Send me an e-mail (jwalsh21@ix.netcom.com) and I'll return pix of the wood veneer dash. (Haven't mastered putting pix here yet)

Red stained Zebrawood veneer (Constantines) over 1/8" birch plywood, inlayed into foam backed black vinyl. Looks factory, along with AM Sport-Comp gauges. Sterio, and heater controls in lower half of CR Deluxe dash. Yeah, there are subtlties to making it look factory, but if you want to duplicate it, I'll show you how.

The list is almost endless.

Although I retained the strut rod on the front suspension (but used polyurethane bushings instead of stock rubber), upper control arms are Heidts "D" arms, lowers are RCC with Carrera coil overs. Used Bethania Garage upper control arm brackets to keep MII in alignment with standard shims.

Everything I hated about Ford was replaced. Ignition is MSD. Starter is Powermaster. Alternator is Delco. Fuel pump is Holley with an Edelbrock base plate to bring fuel in from bottom.

But Ford brakes work fine. Fronts are Grenada 11" with Stainless Steel Brakes 4 piston calipers. Rears are SVO Mustang rear disk brake conversion kit ('87-'89 T-Bird Turbo Coupe 10" rotors and single piston calipers.)

That being said with 15" wheels in mind, used 17" wheels/tires instead. (Definately not original). With the 17's, would have used Baer 13' front, and 12' rear rotors for better performance breaking.

The 74 - '78 Mustang II, Mercury Bobcat, Pinto, and Chevy Chevete were Pieces of Sh!t when they rolled off the assembly line originally! Now, we're using parts off these things to build high performance sports cars, and street legal race cars!? I don't think so! But the aftermarket Street Rod, and Cobra (which is basically another street rod) industry has vastly improved products to make these cars substantially improved versions of their original counterparts. So shop around.

Etc., etc.
