Question Insurance

I'm sure this question has been asked a 1000 times but once more will not hurt. Where can I get insurance for my CR? Seems that the ones I have contacted limit your milage to 2500 or want your first born male child as payment. I live in "sunny warn" Arizona and am looking for a resonalbe insurance carrier. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I'd check with your regular carrier if you want coverage for more than show use. I guess it depends on what state you live in.I'm a retired ins. agent and my company would not insure "kit cars."We used and outside company from PA but I don't recall if they had mileage limits or not. It's been a while and things may have changed since 1995, when I retired.

Have all my vehicles for comprehensive and liability with Allstate, except for the AMX comp which is with JC Taylor. But, Allstate would take the coverage. The AMX and Cobra both have stated value amounts since there are no standard book values to apply. Upon renewal with JC Taylor I was asked to submit current photos and Allstate did ask twice for an update on the odometer mileage and restate the usage.

For both insurance companies had to submit pictures and state the vehicles are used for casual recreational purposes, not daily driving to work or general day to day driving to the stores.

Did not have any difficulties obtaining the insurance coverage.

Don , I live in northwest Indiana, have all my stuff insured with State Farm. I insured my Cobra for agreed upon value, no mileage limits, have it in storage now insurance is almost nothing while it is in storge. Can`t wait till spring, all I do now is go out in the garage and look at the nice tan cover that is over it. Will back it out tomorrow and let it run for awhile , try to do this every couple of weeks. Harold

I'll tell you one thing, the insurance on the cobra is trivial compared to what I pay to insure my 16 year old son. Like double

Thanks for the info. I obtained coverage through Hartford (AARP of us over 50). An Agreed upon value and the same coverages as are with my other vehicles and 500 miles per month (6000 per yr) limit.

I'm prior military and have had USAA insurance on cars, house, etc., since '66.

To USAA, it's just another car. It's not even a High Performance car because the original 351 was only rated at 195HP. Over 300 original HP and you pay a HiPo car premium.

Since I like driving it more than just ocassionally, I put standard tags on it. Get it State safety inspected annually, but over 25 years old does not require emissions. Why not just get antique tags for an over 25 year old vehicle which does not require emissions, or safety, or even annual renewal? First, there is the how much, and where I can, and can't drive. Second, and more importantly, a fender bender, and it goes to court, which car "may not" have been working properly because I didn't have the little sticker on the windshield? Just a little extra protection.

When I insurred mine last June I had the same problems. The trick is what to say your CR is. Say it is a replica of a 1965 Ford 427. If you say kit car the angents run away. But when I said replica my State Farm angent said, "Oh, let me get the replica form."
