Trunk release on a CR...opinions
The CR has no room for the traditional trunk handle, since the license plate goes to the bottom of the trunk lid.
Has anyone seen one mounted like this, from John Polings gallery? This is not a CR, but has the same license plate situation.

So.....Don Scott.....anyone.....what do you think of the looks of the handle below the trunk? or should i just go with a remote release?
Thanks,
John

John,
We mount the handle under the plate but us an electric remote system to open the trunk. Looks like OEM but the handle does not work. We trim it off on the back so it sits flat on the trunk lid you just can not turn it. You can still use it to lift the trunk lid.
Looks like this.

This is a Hunter kit but you get the idea.

Bruce,
On my car, there is no room under the plate to mount the handle on the actual trunk lid, so the "dummy" handle would not lift the lid.
But I like your idea.
John

Mine has a remote latch with a choke-type cable that activates it from behind the driver's seat. It locks it also. I can get an extra latch setup like mine if you need it.

John,
I have seen some folks cut the plate around the handle. If you do this you can not us a plate holder such as the one on our car. We us an electric poper to operate the latch. The last CR we did we put electric popers on the doors hood and trunk. It is great fun at shows for the guy that owns it. Someone gets to close to the car and he hits the button on his key pad in his pocket and a door pops open. Folks think they did something and jump back from the car.

I like the look of the handle on the body. You could make it functional also. If you want to use an electric opener Watson's Street Works has a nice setup. www.watsons-streetworks.com.

I mounted two handles one on either side of the license plate. Neither is funtional except to use as a handle to lift trunk. The lever supplied with the kit works just fine for me.

John,
I used a set of billit openers that I mounted on the upper left hand side of the drivers compartment. They hang down enough for me to pull them. One opens the trunk and one the hood. Doesn't look original but neither does any of the rest of my car.

relaxinrob,
Where did you get your lockable cable release for your trunk?
Thanks, Mike

It came with my kit. My dad got one with his kit too, but he used a regular handle. I think he wants $30 plus shipping for it. You use a choke cable to activate it.

I posted some pics on my gallery. I decided to mount the traditional style trunk handle below the trunk lid. When the handle is closed, the hook grabs an eye bolt that screws into the trunk lid. On the CR, a metal plate is made into the fiberglass trunk lid where the latch mounts to the lid.
This was good, since I was able to drill and tap it in order to screw in the eye bolt, making it adjustable.
I think it looks good, and it works too!

I went with the lever down under which works fine.
You can't see it and I don't have anything in the
trunk on a constant basis, so I am not worried
about the lack of security. To date, nobody has
asked where the trunk handle is, and when
raising the lid I just lift on the bottom edge of
the lid. I was going to use an electric actuator
like I used on the doors but as much as I use
the trunk decided to go with the KISS system.
