Default blown sidepipes

Don,
I have blown 2 sets of sidepipes in the past 5000 miles. The first set was the old restrictive style and the second set are the new better flowing set. The second set only has about 1000 miles on them.
I am trying to figure out a sidepipe that wont blowout so fast. My engine is a 351W with a cam of 230ish intake duration @.050 and 240ish exhaust @.050. The engined dynoed at about 460 at the flywheel.
I just cant afford to be replacing pipes every few months.
Matt

The insides of the new ones are rattling inside and have gottin a lot louder.
The old ones the baffle walls were in little pieces.

Matt,
After only two years of driving I decided that my glasspack sidepipes were getting louder as time went on. They weren't rattling yet but just getting louder!
I built a new set using Vortex cones in the collectors and Lobak spiral mufflers in place of the glasspacks and I must say they sound great!! Nice throaty sound but down on the decibel level. Photos in my gallery!!

Did you buy the second set from us? If you did I will replace the mufflers at N/C if you send them to me. We have been using the new free flow muffler for a few years and I haven't had any known problems to date.

Don,
The other day I spoke with Pete and he directed me to the manufacture of the mufflers. I spoke with them and ordered a set of 3in core to replace the ones out of the first set. I will get these back together and see if I like the sound of them. If it is to loud for my liking I will get with you on what mufflers you are using now.
By any means I dont feel that you should have to replace the mufflers for me. From the sounds of it the guys at heart throb said that it was more than likely from the UPS guy "dropping" them at my door step.
Thanks a bunch.
Matt

Did you have side pipes ceramic coated? I did and the sound was different than it was when I put them on the first time. I think the heat of the ceramic process may have had something to do with it. They are definetly louder than they were pre coating.

Hmmm.. I just ceramic coated mine.. Maybe I should go out and start it up to see if they sound different.. It's only 8pm. I shouldn't piss off too many neighbors..

Nope.. their no louder than they were before.. Huh.. did you say something???

the coating was put on them right out of the box. I ran them for a few runs last summer and no rattle but after a long 200 mile run they rattle bad. Kind of funny sounding when you are sitting a a red light.

I've had mine for 6 years , 14,000 miles and no rattles/problems yet.
Oops - I probably shouldn't have said that - it'll happen now!
