Unhappy waiting for parts

Seems like a repeat of a lot of old threads. My friend is telling me that its worse now than in 1999 when he ordered his. Can only hope things improve soon. Dream car turning into nightmare.

What are you waiting for and how long has it been? That is a bold statement - to compare the old CR of 1999 to the one now owned and run by Don Scott.

Wheels, radiator, rearend, body, seats, wiring harness, etc. 2 page backorder list. Ordered in May, was told would be ready in July. Pete has been good about the whole thing, just getting frustrated.

I could start sending out parts that are bad or defective and deal with the problems at a later date but I have chosen to deliver product that I have confidence in. You were set to receive your Cobra body 2 weeks ago and I discovered that the body had air pockets between the gel coat and the fiberglass. They can be repaired and many companies choose to send their bodies in that condition, I don't. I don't have the facilty to shoot my own bodies at this time so I must depend on a very good outside vendor for this. We have delivered quite a few bodies lately and each body we get is destined for a specific customer. At this time I don't have extra bodies in stock. Your body was the one with the problems. I have 3 more bodies on order and yours is one of them. They are scheduled to be delivered on September 1st. I could have repaired the body I have and not told you but I didn't want you to have any trouble after the car is painted. If I can't find all the air pockets they will pop after time. This is one of the first bodies I've had a problem with in quite some time. We have been honest with you and apologized for the delay. The other parts you are waiting for have all been ordered and I am at the mercy of the vendors. Ford has had the rearends on backorder since May through my vendor. Again, I could take a used one and rebuild it but I choose to sell new product. I'm sorry you have the feeling you are being taken advantage of because that is not my intent. I wish I could control my vendors but I can't. We have received some of the backordered parts and I will gladly ship them to you but it was my understanding you wanted to pick up these item when the body was ready. Again I have not tried to hide anything from you.

In 1999 the customer was being ripped off with no intentions by the company to ship anything. Your friend is wrong and I don't appreciate the reference to what I am doing with this company. To date I have had 2 dealer failures which has cost me over $100,000. My dealers took money from the customers and then closed the doors. I delivered the products without ever receiving 1 dime. I delivered over $200,000 in backordered parts from the old company without ever receiving a penny. I did an asset purchase of this company with no obligation to take care of old backorders. But I did and everyone thought I was crazy for doing so. You made a deposit on your kit on May 20th. This got the ball rolling to fill the order. We told you the interior was in-line to be completed. It is complete. If you wanted us to ship we would have.

I don't appreciate you posting on this forum and badmouthing my company with ill intent for the next customer. I have always been honest. Do we have problems, you bet we do. Are we trying to fix them, of course we are. In an ideal world I would have enough money to have everything in-house but I don't. I have not received a single call from you regarding any of this so I didn't even know we had a problem until I read it on this forum. A courtesy call would have been nice.

I will deliver all your parts, I will continue to answer any and all questions regarding the build of your Cobra, you will not be ripped off, I am not Gary Rutherford, I am not Classic Roadsters LTD, My company is Classic Roadsters II. I do not operate the way the old company did, I will close the doors before that happens. I run this company with Christian values and will continue to do so.

Sorry Don, I didn't mean to "badmouth your company". I did E-mail you a couple of times and you tranfered it to Pete. I understand he is your customer service guy. Again I am sorry, I did not intend to upset you. I appreciate your honesty and your response. I will just have to be more patient, just seemed odd so many vendors were behind. Hope you can forgive me for my post, wrong place to vent.

Hey JAC, Patience my friend, patience. You are the first person I have heard with anything negative to say about CRII. I have a 97 CR already built when I bought it so I can't say I wholly understand your anger but I have learned to be patient with my car, my wife and my mechanic. Hang in there and hopefully it will all come together soon. It sounds like the delays are not in the control of CRII. And you would really be "fit to be tied" if that body was defective after all is said and done. It's just part of the adventure. Good Luck.

Don Scott,
I thought your answers about the problems where well address. I bought a classic roadster in 1992 and all I got after they closed there doors was a frame and body all the other parts where missing, etc, etc. parts where very hard to come by. I made many of the parts my self. After classic started back up I asket for parts at classic cost to help out. I was told that was not going to happen. At that time almost All the parts vendors where having problems.
I love my roadster and I think it stands up well againts most all the others out there. Classic roadsters have very strong frames and drive very nice. I have heard nothing but good things since you stared classic Roadster 11 . Keep up the good work and thanks for steping up and addresssing the problems.

I have to agree with everything Don has written.. They deliver a top quality body and more. Even my painter commented on how well built everything was and he has painted over 300 cobras. He especially appreciated how heavy duty the doors were.. ;>) I plan to build a second Cobra next year for my wife.. Guess where I am ordering it from.. CRII.. Thats who..

Default Don Scott

Don was the guy who rescued me when the company changed hands and the new company sent me a letter saying they were not responsible for delivering any parts contracted by the previous owner, this after I had sent in my deposit of $12,000. Don didn't have to do anything for me but he did and for that I am forever thankful. He also spent many hours on the phone with me when I needed help with the assembly process. Trust me he will come through for you too.

Jerry, you are missing 4 items from your kit.

Trunk striker
Glove box
Glove box cover
Lug nut covers for your wheels

The lug nut covers were ordered when we discussed the problem associated with the order. The covers were written on the order but it was not included in the price (an oversight on my part). I told you I would order them and not charge you. I ordered them the day we spoke. I called Team III yesterday and they could not find the order so she said she would ship them on Tuesday. Please call Team III to verify that the order was lost. I have the original purchase order that was faxed to them.

The rest of the parts are in process. The glove box was made from ABS plastic by a company in Canada. They no longer do these unless I order 500 at a time which is not possible for me. We had a mold made and they are now fiberglass. This process took awhile. My apologies. The glove box cover was made by a company in Fargo, ND. I had the same problem with them as the company in Canada. They wanted me to order more than I can. We are now having those parts made by another company. The trunk striker used a laser cut part and I had trouble finding the print. Many of the prints that I was supposed to get with the company were nowhere to be found. Subsequently I had to have prints made and find a new vendor for my laser parts. Everyone I contacted about laser cutting were not interested in doing small quantities. I finally found a company in Iowa that will work with me and we have since had them cutting our parts. A shipment which included the trunk striker was recently delivered and we are in process of welding, and bending those parts.

My apologies if these items have held up the build on your car. You will receive them as soon as they are completed.
Don

Jac,
Your method of bringing pressure to bear in hopes of expediting your parts shipment might be better addressed using a telephone or email.
Mr. Scott has a respected reputation in the industry. He has explained why the delays have occurred.
Does your whole build hinge on a trunk striker and some lug nut covers?
Take the high road, the man is obviously trying, your attempt to publicly embarrass him through this forum is bush league.

Jac,
If all you need is a trunk support and glove box weldment.I`d say
your doing pretty well. These are not mass produced. If this
is it ,you must be close to finishing your car!

Default Keep it up.

Keep going with your whining JAC. This Don Scott dude is looking more and more like a real straightup guy. Could JAC be a shill for Classic II?

Nah.

JAC,

Not sure of the real point or intention of your posting but if you have a question or issue with parts or anything, pick up the phone!

In my dealings, over the last ten years, with Don, Pete and the rest of Don's crew I have had only the most honest, fair, helpful and responsive treatment - even when there was absolutely nothing in it for him/them. I hold them head and shoulders above any other company in any other industry I have had experience with. I'm sure my experience is not out of the ordinary.

I'm sure there are a couple of more things you can be doing with/to your project... Besides, even with our mild winter so far, you won't be able to drive it until April anyway

Happy New Year!
Dwain

To all,
First, I have been dealing with CRII for a couple of years now and have had both good and not so good issues. I have had wrong parts shipped to me, and parts shipped late. My issue is that even I get a little slow on working on my car. It's not like I need it to get back and forth to work. But you all need to rember that when someone orders (and pays for) parts and does not receive tham in a timly manor it can be very upseting. If you go to a regular auto parts store for a part for your work car and they say it will be 3 days you are there on the third day saying "where is my part"? It doesnt matter if JAC needs his parts or not. If he ordered them he should get them in a timly manor. That being said, I am at least 99.9% happy with CRII. I bought my car used and taken apart. Even some of the essential brackets were cut off and missing. I called Don and he sent them to me "no charge" and he even paid for the shipping. Now if that isn't customer service then I don't know what is. Even with the couple of issues that I have had I still have faith in CRII. If not I would not have ordered and just received my new 351W from them. JAC, I know things can be frusterating at times but just hold on. It will all be worth it when you are finished.

My own lug nut covers, purchased direct from Team III, took 3 months longer than the wheels for delivery. This, I know firsthand, is not within Don's control.

If I can find my glove box for the CR I will send it to you. I made a larger one for mine and did not use it.
