Default Hub / Tie Rod?

I'm helping out a buddy on a CR that he bought. We just replaced the front springs with the correct parts. While in the process of doing that I noticed the Tie Rod was not completely seated in the Hub. I took a few measurments and the Taper in the Hub is smaller than the taper on the Tie Rod. I'm not sure what these part #'s are supposed to be, or what they come off of...but at this point I think the easiest thing to do would be to get the correct tie rod and see if it fits the Hub, otherwise I'll have to search out a Tie Rod that fits without knowing what the Hub is from. Does anyone know which Tie Rod should be in this car, and does the hub have to be modified to accept them. Also what Streering Rack should be in the car. Odviously somethings not right and I'm not sure which part/parts are wrong . Thanks in advance.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by the hub and the tie rod. The tie rod connects to the rack and the spindle. If it's the spindle end then it sounds like the wrong tie rod end. It should be seated in the spindle. The car uses the 1974 to 1978 Mustang II front suspension. I would purchase new tie rod ends for that model. The rack is also Mustang II.

This is similar to what I experienced while redoing my supension. I was using upper ball joints are TRW (Chrysler type) that screw into the upper tubular A arm. These are used a lot in Circle track racing which is where the various parts were sourced from for the redesign of my suspension. Anyway I ended up having the tapered holes in the Mustang II spindles reamed with a reamer that had the correct angle to match that of the ball joint. Circle track chassis builder or machine shop should be able to help you.
