Tall guy needs advice.

Iam currently looking at the Classic Roadsters II cobra , they tell me that they will fit a tall guy ! anyone out there have some input?

Wetdog, I am 6' 215lbs. My seat is moved forward a couple inches. As I understand the CR is 6" longer and 4 " wider in wheelbase than a lot of replicas. The car suits me fine. I think the best thing if your concerned is to sit in as many cars as you can.

I'm 6'4", 230 lbs. I fit fine, although the leg room is just a little tight.

My Lonestar is 4" longer and ?? wider. Also has a narrower trans tunnel. Tons of leg room. I'm 6' 3", 200 and fit easily. I've sat in several that my knees are in the dash, turnsignal, wheel, etc..... I also sit down in the car w/ its dropped floor pans and look through the windshield instead of over it.

thanks ..

Those were the two I looked into ..the lone star and the classic roadsters I guess i will just have to pull the trigger on one of them ! I am pretty sure I could modify for comfort if I had to . Thanks again.

West Coast Cobra also makes a car for large guys.

There are many Cobra manufacturers with wheelbases over the standard 90 inches. Here is a thread with a zipped Excel file listing all manufacturers. It also lists the wheelbases available.

I'm 6'6" and weigh 275 and I do fit in my std wheelbase SPF. I did a few mods to make it roomier for me. Would I be more comfortable in a stretched 96" WB .... absolutely ... if you like the looks of a stretched Cobra.

Good luck. Can you make it to London show? You can sit in many cars there.

moving the pedals..

I'm 6'3" 215 and am looking for a way to move the pedals/get different pedals that are more compact with less travel. CR's kit is one of the best kits for big guys but i still need a bit more room. When I put my foot on the clutch my knee hits the turn signal... this is handy when making a right turn but seems a bit hazardous not to mention uncomfortable. Does any one have advice on moving/replacing the pedals?

Thanks,

-Dan

If you want the "Cobra " experience purchase a 4000 series car from Shelby with the dropped driver floor pan . A 90 inch wheelbase was the original car. Kirkham makes an aluminum car called " car in a box " for about one half the price of the Shelby car. Add the optional dropped floor pan for about $ 1000.00 . Most everyone knows that Shelby subcontracts to Kirkham anyway. I am 6'1" and I really don't fit that well without the the dropped floor pan. It makes me feel like I could panic in an emergency. This fear of rear ending that minivan with the six kids in front of me detracts from thr joy of driving my Cobra. Hope this helps.

Don't know where you are but HUNTER COBRA IN Fla build a 96 in wheelbase that has a drop floor, for me and I'am very happy 6 foot @ 275 fit is fine ,
he can also open the foot box if you want

My Mods to a FFR...

I was able to make a bunch of small mods to my FFR and I fit great now. A bit of history...

In 2005 I examined over twenty cobras at Knotts and could only work the pedals enough to drive in one. Lucky for me that one car belong(ed) :( to a great guy, Doug Wondery. He actually offered to let me take his for a spin - pun thrown in for comic effect - when he saw me at Willow Springs that October and I was hooked.

From that configuration (stock seats bolted to the floor, mustang pedal box), I made the following changes to my build:
  • Wilwood pedalbox. Option from FFR now? If not, get it from Fortes. Added 2" of legroom.
  • Kirkey intermediates seat option. I got 17" instead of 16" wide and cut the tops off to mimic the Kirkey vintage racing seat. How you mount them makes a difference in the amount of add'l room you get, but count on at least another 2".
  • FFMetal drivers footbox sheetmetal replacement panel (although I highly recommend his "grand slam"). It gives back the space taken on the MKIII to accommodate the 4.6L mod motor so Micheal will have to run a Small block, ie 5.0(302) or Windsor(351) or maybe even a... I can't say it. Think Darth Vader... [Big Grin]
  • Dead pedal mod. Lot's of options here.
  • Footbox crash bar mod. This one is optional. I have big feet so the outer driver's footbox crashbar is in the way.

All of the mods above can be seen in this thread:
http://www.ffcobra.com/cgi-bin/ultim.../t/092850.html

I'm 6'5+, 275lbs :( with long legs and I can now stretch my left leg until it's almost straight.

HTH,
