how much?
black?
Ferrules included? (I could really use those ferrules)
(I had a heck of a time fitting that roll bar, (don sent me 3) The third fit like a champ. It was a nightmare of six different holes and going through the trunk)
If you can't tell, I am so fearful of the fit, as I am not sure the roll bar is that standard, will you minimally give me my money back if it doesn't fit and I return the top, of course?
Windows included?

JT,
If it helps your fears, all I can tell you is the tops will be at least the same quality as the CRII tops. In fact the aluminum header bow (in the last few years) has been made from two seperate pieces to extend across the top of the windshield. The header bow used to have a hinge between the two pieces allowing it to be folded in half. Now they are made without the hinge leaving the very center unsupported. Definately a cost saving part that saved the company some money. I hope to be able to reploy this hinge-we'll see.
Color black will certainly be one of the options, although I have not seen many boats with black canvas .
Guarantee, hmm, good point. I guess I am the guy the makers will have to deal with. If I accept them, then it will have to pass my muster. I'm sure if there are any defects #1 they will fix, but most likely any defects that I see will NOT be accepted. I guess you need to trust me. At least until this gets off the ground far enough and I can at least re-direct a top buyer directly to them.
FERRULES: JT the tops do NOT come with ferrules and never did. Simply buy a 3/8 stainless steel tube a foot or so long, cut off 6, 3" long pieces, grind the outside edge a kittle and use a "marglass, duraglass" type body material and glue them in leaving about a 1/4" out of the top. Take a small grinder or what have you and grind the tops off flush with the top of the fiberglgass-BEFORE any body work! Thats it, the ferrules were used by some guys for appearance sake, I actually used them for the extra strenght it gave the fiberglass. Personally I would never put a top in with out them.
Rollbar: Again I am positive that the top will go over the roll bar. My roll bars are built higher than any one that I know of, actually over the top of the windshield header for SCCA and NHRA rules. I have never seen Don or the original CR build a higher roll bar. HOWEVER; from your body measure in the middle of the body to the top of the roll bar and give me the height along with a measurement from the back side of the main hoop to the back of the down legs. The worst case scenario is you use the standard bows that will come with the tops! No problems here.
WINDOWS: Of course the windows will be included and each window will be fitted to each individual top!
COST: As stated I do not have any pricing yet but you will be advised to the total cost minus shipping when I am able top get the five minimum tops ordered. At that time if everyone apporves then the orders will be started and the deposits will be asked for.
Anything else?
DV

Here's a really nice picture of the Classic roadster soft top, I find its one of the better looking tops on a Cobra. This is what DV will try to copy.

Making Your Own Ferrules
Earlier in this thread DV confirmed the size of the stainless tubing that would work.
Excerpt:
You can get 304 Stainless, .500" OD and .4375 (7/16") ID in 12" lengths from McMaster-Carr for $6.33.
Using 3/8" bow from CRII I would have:
.0625" (1/16")clearance or .03125" (1/32") each side.
I'll guess that the powder paint millage wouldn't eat up all of the clearance.
My point:
Here is the part number for the tubing: #8457K27. In case anybody is looking for it.

This seems to be exactly what I was looking for! I was talking to Pete a year ago about a top for my Cobra to no avail. Where are you guys at on making an actual order? I am in, let me know. Thanks, Chris.

Tops:
OK,
We have more than enough interests in the tops, problem is, I do not like the new headers and you wont either. I need to borrow and older style top from someone for what I hope is only a couple of days but maybe up to two weeks. I absolutely gurantee no damage will be done (or I will replace it with a brand new top!) What I will need is the original style top with an all stainless steel or aluminum top header bow, (that fits on the window frame) and the side curtains so they can be matched. A top with the Black "U" channel going over the window frame is NOT the one we want.
Hartz cloth is in place, sewers in place, wiindow material in place. Tubing manufacturers are in place, DV's in place .
Any takers?
DV

call Pete, he promised me one, he must still have it.
Sorry DV, just sour grapes, I know. Be damned to the squeakier wheel that got MY top.
I have anger issues.

Hi Bill!
Bill I think with your roll bars the stock top will fit fine only you use the roll bar for the top bow instead of using the bows. However we can make the back section any lenght you need. The company I have finally approved has a Tool and Die guy that can make the old style headers instead of the 'U' channel that CR's switched too for cost. Let me get Terry's top in house and we'll go from there-only good news I hope! The end is now in sight!
Good to talk to you again!
