Gas tank has sprung a leak! Looks like a weld has failed. This car will just not cut me a break

Time to get in touch with mickmate and see about getting a new tank made....

(adding this to the list of a couple other dozen things that need to be fixed)

I hate to ask, but one of my welds for the new supply line or a factory weld?

Looks like one of yours. Bottom weld where the pick up was welded in. I'll know better once I drop the tank.

Capteddie,
Just drain your tank and take it to a radiator shop. Most if not all can fix the leak, pressure test and re-seal the inside of the tank.

No need for a new tank unless you want one anyway.

I know I can get it fixed. Just might as well upgrade to an aluminum or stainless tank, if I have to go through the hassle of dropping the old on out.

Well "T" has the best answer AND the safest one too!

Default When your first love... isn't

Well think back to when you were really young and found that first love. You thought this was it, this is all I was looking for....

Then she leaves you for a football player, you find out she's not really what you thought she was, or you decide its best to just go in different directions.

Thats sort of how my whole CRII thing is shaping up. She's hot, but she's not what I had dreamed about. She is and has been high maintenance. She's sucked a lot of money out of me with not much return.

Then as your driving one day you spot something that really takes your breath away and you stop and reflect on times gone by... You and I were meant for each other.....

Stay tuned.... A really good deal or two will be coming to the CRII community.

Waiting for what your up too with abated breath! (One just never knows!)

CRII Cobra for sale. Minus engine and transmission $20K. Much, much, much, much more than that invested in the build. I'll throw in a all aluminum Serpent Express for an extra $4000.00

Ok. So not to run another thread into the ground. I'm steering this back over to my build thread.

What happened and what was said over here Is this my last one?
is done over there.

I'm going to talk to DV (off line) and work out the logistics of getting the car back to him to work out the outstanding issues. I and I'm sure he will post where this gets picked up and what gets addresses, fixed or modified.

Oh... and someone was questioning my ability to turn a wrench somewhere...

I picked this up about a month ago.

Stock GT on the lot

Just picked it up from the dealer

Since those two pictures. I've added a Magnaflow cat back exhaust system, a Steeda cold air kit with a custom tune, a TCI shifter and a Roush stage 3 suspension kit. And in the words of Gomer Pyle.. SURPRISE, SURPRISE, SURPRISE... I put it all in myself. The only things I haven't done is adding the chin spoiler and blacking out all the chrome and lights. (I'm not good at body work or paint)

Oh. I didn't put the new Foose wheels and Nitto rubber on either

And I do have a Ok garage...

Hay capteddie,
Are you sure that you want to park that Mustang there if the gas tank on the Cobra leaks?
Just a thought.

In that bottom picture, Does the top not do all the way down flush. Looks funny, almost like a rip. Probably not. Nice car though.

Hey Terry!

Top is all the way down. I just don't have the cover on it to dress it up. Its kind of a pain in the ass to put on all the time.

The gas tank on the cobra was drained by then and I also have a tarp that gets stretched across under the cobra and a CCC car cover that goes on the Mustang. Really was just seeing how it would fit.

At least that cover should be easier to put on and store in the car than the car cover. The car cover takes up all of the trunk unless you try to bag it all of the time, and that is a b!tch to do.

I'd still say careful from the gas tank anyway. Mine does not leak but I get a fuel smell (but no drips) if I jack up just the back. And that is with a 1/2 full tank.

I guess that means there is a leak somewhere, I just have not found it.
Should find it before I start seeing smoke.

Cpt.,
That's the new place? Wow!

Terry, if you look close you can see the outlet of the tank, (Totally different than the stock CR outlet) on the very bottom. Why that leaks is beyond me.

Also because of your ODOR does NOT mean your tank is leaking! The "C.R." vent for the car is pretty antiquated, want to fix it for good, look through my gallery and find the FORD roll over valve* we put in the tank, then pick up a (cheap these days) GM Monte Carlo, Old Camaro, etc., "GAS CANISTER", install it up behind the rear wheel well, run the input line to the roll over valve, the other nipple on the canister goes to "AIR" (also works as a vent!) and your fuel odor should all but disappear!

(Thought I would save you all of the trouble trying to find it.)

*Less than $20.00 from Ford, but you have to remove the tank to install.

Cpt., I'll bet that Stang could tow the Cobra!

Toys, Toys, Toys. Never too many TOYS!

YES, took awhile but the computer finally took the new password, no problems this morning!

I don't know about it towing the cobra, but after we get the vortech supercharger bolted on it, I'm pretty sure it will out run the cobra. ( even with the AC turned on )

OK DV. So how do you want to do this?

You can have the car back around mid September or early October. Whatever works best for you and you can have the car till spring. I would suggest you have it so you can get the car up on the lift, so you can see where the finish on the lower panels is bad. Also that would let you go over the entire underside to check things out. Thats how I found the roll bar bolts and the bolts on the sway bar that don't thread completely threw.

If you want. I'll also hold off on getting the gas tank fixed, even though its out and sitting on my garage floor right now.

As I said in the other thread. I really don't want to throw another wheel barrel of cash at this car. I would like to try and make the Kirkey seat fit, along with moving all the switches off the left side of the dash. Stuff like that. I wouldn't have a problem paying for.

Balls in your court....

OK, let me get this right? The roll bar bolts were tight just TOO long? Now that I can believe. I've had a note on my chalkboard for months to get two new 5" bolts! For the life of me I couldn't remember why I wrote that!

Gas Tank, if it's out and you can get the Cobra in your neat trailer just leave it out. (That's right I put a winch in there for you!) I asked but must be irrelevant now if the tank was leaking or the fitting was the culprit. either way I will test again, only this time under higher pressure and that will be cured.

On the bottom of the left rear 1/4 with the Cobra on the hoist I can make out the "haze". Yup little more buffing will do it! I will most likely buff the entire car out to "Finish" this time. You should not have any more hazy complaints!

Lights: You would not believe the lights I am putting in the shop! I am replacing all the "Metal Halide 400w. Bulbs with a new kind of light. Kind of like the little pig tail lights everyone is supposed to change too. They even fit my Metal Halide fixtures but you have to completely take out the Ballast and NOT use a Ballast at all! They are amazing, simply amazing and talk about a pure white light! I was going to change all the lights to T-8's and the guy suggested these to me. 1/3 the price of T-8's, 1/10th the cost of Halides and the fixtures. Right now if I only turn two on I have MORE light than having 6 of the Halides on!

10,000 hr bulbs, penny's a day VS $1.00's and hour Halides!

Anytime after October 1st fella. DV Jr. - Randy is getting married (Finally) in the middle of Sept. in South Carolina. (Giving him my 23' Carver and trailer for a wedding present! Will have plenty of room for your own parking .

Spring time will be more than enough time, even if I am slowing down these days!

Can you get me the width of the bottom of the Kirkeys again? Actually the widest part at the top of the cushion, this will make or break em!

The dash wont be a problem at all, just draw me a diagram of how you want it now. Still need the extra Knee room on the left side? Dead Man pedal, take it out or leave it?

You made an (off?) comment about having a aluminum gas tank made. If so I should leave that up to you. NO place around here that I know of to get one made. I can have it made through the Internet like I did for DV II and they did a wonderful job but that was at least a half of a wheel barrow of money!

Looking forward to it!
Dv

PS haven't got a 302 EFI motor laying around do ya? Women!!!!!!!!
