Default Another FYI on the sway bars:

I took both the front and rear sway bars off my CR. Now the car handles like a high performance sports car. Very taught like on rails in the turns, yet a nice "sports car" ride, firm but still compliant, not at all harsh. With those goofy bars on it rode like a Mac Truck, very harsh and unforgiving. The diameter of those two bars is better suited for a Lincoln Town Car than a 2,400lb Cobra. Those bars will never go on my car again. Plus, I probably saved about 50lbs of dead weight.

LOL

I couldn't agree more for the most part. How ever we had the real Pro's at Honda's test track (Now used by All USA car makers), test the Cobras front and rear say bars. The front bar is a joke and IS much too big for CR but the rear bar did make the car run a higher G Force than without!

I'll watch the signatures a little closer from now on!

This is my original build thread. The only things that could be missing is some images. My image library started getting close to the limit and I did delete some pictures. But I've never tried to pull any posts off.

Well, all being done and said, Cpteddie's Cobra now has a new owner, "ME"! Going to post and hopefully show all the extra work to be done. First thing, the roll bar bolts "were" tight, BUT the wrong length! I simply forgot to buy shorter bolts somehow. Gas Tank Leaking: Yes it was! I asked Ed three or four times was it the weld or was it the A.R.E. fitting? He couldn't say, I filled it up and watched the slowest but absolute leak of all times! Where it was leaking at was impossible to tell what was going on!

I first started to take off the A.R.E. fitting, noticed a little slop and "grip" you don't normally find on these fittings. ? Started looking at the fuel system and Ed along with getting his Re-built Holley back on the motor, also had his Carter Pump changed to a very, very nice Holley pump! Don't know if Ed or his local guys did the swap but in the photo of the Male end you can see some serious "galling" to the top and the threads of this fitting! I'd show you an inside shot of the female part but my camera isn't THAT good. Just have to accept that the female threads were totally "galled!"

Replaced the female end, back together again NO more leaks. Ok-that problem solved!
Now look what happened to the fiberglass trunk lid area of the license plate! Ugly, Ugly, Ugly! Glass was so thin it's a wonder the license plate holder did not fall off on the way home. And, I know it was thin, but not that thin--shame on me! For all the other places that had to be reinforced why I thought this was going to hold up is beyond me! Pictures of how I repaired that mess will follow!

(...fixed images...CW)

CW-is still covering my back! No "Blue Question Marks"

DV, those three items - gas tank leak, thin fiberglass, wrong bolts......all total looks like about 20 bucks worth of parts and material and couple of hours work for a man with your experience on these cars.

Get a new A. R. E. fitting, bolt in shorter bolts, slap on some more layers of fiberglass. No big whoop.

CW, man you are everywhere!
If you have a second and the answer is a quick one, can you tell me what I'm doing wrong?

I put the photo's in my gallery, copied the link, clicked the posting picture icon, pasted the link and wal-AHHH the dreaded "Blue question mark!"

By the way, thank you, once again!

Jdean, just about says it all. Roll bar is assembled correctly this time! Already replaced the bad fitting, pulled the trunk lid off, removed the one good "jack-nut", removed the wiring for the trunk light, and the license plate light. Cold and done for today, tomorrow I'll get into a very easy but seriously strong repair for the license plate holder.

Looks like you're well on your way to getting capteddies ex-cobra all sorted out. Keep up the good work. Please post pics as you continue as I find this thread very interesting and entertaining. I also wish capteddie the best of luck on his new project and hope he truly enjoys it.

For the life of me I can not figure out what CW is doing to get the photo's to show up vs. the dreaded question mark that I have been getting lately!?

Picture 1 is the 10ga-stainless steel plate I have welded 1/4x20 nuts too. The plate along with welded nuts will certainly make the trunk lid stronger than it ever was. The "Nutzerts" will NO longer be needed.

This is the inside of the trunk lid, obviously a "chunk" cut out". If you look(ed) at one of the above posts you can see what this looked like on the outside!

The next two are of the 'plate' glued in place, last photo is the 'plate' totally - forever in place!

PS--right click again, on the question marks-sorry. I've been posting pictures over ten years???

...fixed links.

Ed...just follow these steps:

Go to your Gallery.

View the Medium-sized desired image (not the big version).

Directly below the picture is a section entitled Photo Details; there, further down, is Additional Info, with four cutout boxes with 'code' in them

Just click-to-highlight the stuff in the third cutout box labeled "Medium Image:"

..then point to the highlight and COPY with a right mouse click.

Go to your post and, at the desired place, PASTE the link.

Oh...wait...you have a Mac, right. Sorry...no right-clicks for you.

Just copy and paste the Medium Image: link into your post.
