Hood scoop
Right know the hood sits 1/4" above carb, air cleaner is 2 1/2" tall. I think I would need to raise scoop 3"??? Is there any place that will do this,or do I need to get another hood?
Thank you
Robert

What style intake manifold are you using? I dropped my engine off at DVs place Saturday and I might be in the same boat as you.
I have an Edelbrock dual plane intake and might have to swap that out for a lower profile intake to get some of the hood clearance back (if needed). Won't be sure until DV drops the motor.

Huckelberry,
Using the 460 with the carb and intake you are using you may not have any choice but to have some one add some height to the scoop. Be carefull, it may end up looking like a Pro Stree hood! (Of course that may be the look you are loking for?) If it follows the norm the rear of the scoop will have to come up only about a half inch, it normally does not need a full three inches added all the way around.
DV- another 2-cents...

Huckelberry,
I do, but I don't know if you want to ship it all the way to NW Mi. Normally I finish them with a final primer coat and it will be ready to wet-sand and be painted.
Is the motor in the frame? I assume it is??
Is the body on and aligned?
How long is the air cleaner-center measurement- width at the widest?

Well DV all ready put his recommendation on record and I have learned that his knowledge is the best around, especially when it comes to customizing or CRIIs.
He would be the one I would use to modify the scoop if needed. In fact he is building my car and will be cutting the scoop, if we need to cross that bridge. I'm sort of hoping that a swap of the intake would be faster and less costly.
I'll be driving over to his place probably on the 5th or 6th of July to drop my tranny off. If you think your going to need the scoop modified and DV agrees to do it, I have no problem taking your hood over when I go.

Yes Sir,
Cell: 1 231 425-6823
Home: 1 231 865-4608 until 10:30 EST (7 days)
I'll be on the mobile until around 5PM today any other time either one will work. If you call my home and the phone just rings, (no answering machine)-I'm on the Net-just call back.
DV
For what it's worth dept: If you decide to change to a low profile manifold the only thing you will loose is the height and top end HP. If You plan on Drag Racing it may do you some good, if not the lower manifold really makes no difference at what is considered normal (hard) driving.

The best (and lowest) manifold for the 460 is the Edelbrock Torker II.
The Torker II is 3.5"/4.25" tall at the carb pad, while the Performer is 4.35"/5.5", meaning the Torker is about an inch shorter vertically. Any other Performer (RPM) or competitive manifold will be even taller, requiring a taller scoop.
Check your manifold's maker's web site for the gory details.
The Torker is a good all-round manifold for street or racing for the 385 series Ford.
