Widest tire size for rear
What is the widest tire size you guys have on the rear of your Classic Roadsters. I do not really care for my tire and rim combos and I am leaning toward changing them. What I am looking for is what rim size and offset do I need to get the widest tire on possible. I am running the 8.8 rearend and coilovers. Is it possible to change the location of the shocks to accommodate a wider tire?
Thanks in advance, Terry

Terry, I currently have the GY billboards on the rear with 8.5"x15" wheels with a back space of 3.25". The tires are 26.5x10-15. These tires bulge on the side walls and just clear the inside of the wheel well. I wish there was a little more room.
I don't know how this compares to your 17's but thought it might help you.

Russ, Your tires are 3" wider but I don't know what the differances are between a Butler and a Classic Roadster.
John, Mine work out to be 26.1 tall and 10.1 wide. Pretty close to the same. I put a couple of pictures in my gallery. My other issue is the rims only come in 1 offset (I don't even know how much) but I had to use 2" spacers to move the tires out to where they are now. I really do not care for the looks of the rear offset. I would like them deeper. I am unsure about even the looks of the rims. I had 16" x 11" compomotive rims on it but I cant find matching front and rear tires in the size that I want for 16" rims. I also don't really care for the big rim look.

Terry,
Ready for some more minor mods? Don't tell people I said this ( ) but you can definately run low profile 335's 17 with huge rimes (maybe 10") under a CR car. All you have to do is modify, don't leave out, the brace for the door lock to the frame. You need to cut this bracket, bend it inward toward the frame then make up with a 1" or 2" piece of steel to make up for moving it inward so the tires will clear. I think the look is awesome and the handeling is, well ten fold over stock! Sorry can't remember the offset ( ) maybe 4 to 4-1/2)
ED, don't look!!!!!!!!!!! However it is not to late!
DV
PS-NO offense but spacers should be outlawed!

Well it would seem to be easier to do it now, while the body is still off. Right?
Here's the specs on my wheels....
front 15 x 8 with 4 inch backspace
rear 15 x 10 with 5.5 inch backspace
Remember what I said the last time I was at your place...
"We're past the point of no return. Why make trade offs or cut corners now. Lets just go for it!!!"

UH-OH!
You want to trade in those beautifull rims for bigger ones? Those are prety good sized tires you got there fella ???????????????
And of course this is an easy mod, especially with the body off!
Darn, I love this job!
DV
PS- OH, your overflow tank came in, my,my my! How about the "T" tube for the radiator hose, want to leave it aluminum or change it to candy apple red/clear coated too?

Thanks DV, Thats just what I was looking for. If I remember correctly John (MaSnaka) had to modify his to clear his Goodyears. My brackets already have wear marks on them from the previous owner. I am not sure what size his tires and rims were.
Thanks again, Terry

No plans on getting rid of those rims anytime soon ( not with what I paid for them ) Just thought that if the modification was pretty simple and the body is off, might as well get it out of the way now than later.
So the overflow tank looks good, uh I think your on to something with getting the filler "T" done to match. Use the one you have to get things plumbed up and I'll order a new one and get it coated. They weren't expensive.
Got the good word about a new round of funding on Thursday. We'll be good with regards to cash flow on the 31st.

Better take this back over to your build thread- didn't mean to hi-jack it. Anyway Terry got his answer I hope.
