Cobra Make, Engine: Classic 427, I purchased it May 2005, the kit was bought in 1991. I'm not sure when it was completed! Installed GMPP Connect & Cruise 376/525 with T-56 S/M 3.55 gears about 2 years ago! 1/4 miles is with old setup!

Yes

Don and the crew up in MN are locked in a legal battle with a previous owner and have shut down. They are trying to find a buyer.

I actually think I got maybe the last CR from Don before he shut down, last December.

Default Looking for buyer?

Not looking too hard. After getting contact, I asked to see financials and detailed inventory and never heard from Don again. Thought it might have been because he already had a buyer (as per the various posts over the summer on this forum), but many months have passed. Soon has become too long. At some point all the good will for the brand will be exhausted and any restart will be virtually from ground zero. Who will trust a company that has periodically shut down "for legal reasons"? Seems to me to be a death spiral while the parties (lawyers?) are in a stare down. Too bad, great car. Hope I'm wrong, but every day hurts the chances.

What would this forum be without DV? At least there is a reliable source for help and advice in the absense of factory support.

Gentlemen,
I know it sucks but, the potential buyer has a locked in contract with Don, Don's Bank and is trying to hold all the assets together until everything gets in place. Honestly we thought this was going to be done months ago. Right now it is closer than its ever been, but it could still fall through. I've still got my fingers crossed, "you" wont belive the improvements, mostly engineering, that are on the way. Hoping for the best and I am tired of waiting too but..............

Snakeracer,
1st. and foremost where did you hear that no down payment was made nor any payments had been made?? Wonder how rumors get started.....

Everything I have posted about the potential selling of CR II is as factual as I have the information. It is NOT hearsay or rumored. Don, being Don and the other gentlemen involved have a contract and is being kept.

There is probably 5 times, OR MORE, the amount of the selling price being negotiated for as we speak. This is for a new facility, new and upgraded Jigs, Molds and the jigs for all the misc. parts. Everything is being put in place as it should be, from working with Don's bank, his creditors to delivery of the final new product. Moving everything that can be used from Mn. to the new facility, lining up very professional fiberglass people (Done) to totally modern welding facility's- almost done if not done.

The list is long and complicated, but this is the agreement that Don and the new guy have worked out and BOTH are keepinng their word and sticking to the contract.

This is all I can say and am willing to say, I just hope it all comes to a succesfull ending soon so WE ALL can get back to building and driving one of the most amazing replicas on the market.

DV,
If there is something in the works for CR to get going again (new owner?) assuming that it has nothing to do with the lawsuit, then why cant Don or the (new owner?) give some updates? People that are looking into buying a Cobra and read about CRII not saying anything and not shipping backordered product will/might decide not to go with CR even when/if it gets going again. No news is NOT good news.

I said it before. I am not owed anything from CRII and mine is pretty much on the road, so I have no irons in this fire. But I do know people that are owed parts and they are not happy campers.

Not trying to start anything, just my openion (sp?)

Snakeracer,
So you are saying you worked for Don, or did you work for Rutherford, God forbid it was Rutherford! I truly feel exactly what you and many others are feeling. I got taken to the bank over Ruthrfords deal years ago. HE still owes me for THREE complete cars including a '57 bird they never owned the rights on!

Terry, I know full well what you are talking about but everything you are saying is the same very old story, I.E., It is for sale, It is under contract, money is being put in place with all the prior mentioned "stuff". I honestly know it truly sucks but what is there to say but the same thing. Until everything is finalized there IS nothing new to say.

My post a week ago (?) indicated that it is very close to being done and it is, BUT everyone has heard those story's before many times. AND heavon forbid it may end up being the same one all over again. I personally don't think so and am praying in the waining hours of this nightmare all will come out well. I Personally think it will and since we can't have DON at the helm, "WE" couldn't be better off in my opinion of the soon to be new owner!

Don't give up yet, If "I" throw in the towel then you will know it's time to get a new hobby! I promise every one one thing, "I WILL NOT TELL ANYONE THAT THERE IS STILL HOPE IF THERE IS NOT ANY! "

I truly love this family of ours as much as I love my own!

DV,
You are correct. No matter what happens to CR, we still have our CR family here. As long as we all try to help each other out "OUR" CR family will stay intact.

Terry, DV, Capteddie and all with a vested interest in CRll's. Terry is absolutely correct we will (with DV's help) try to keep the torch burning bright.

OK.... I was trying to stay on the sidelines and just enjoy my popcorn.... but...

I know a lot of people got screwed with the whole CRII Rutherford mess. Me included. Some unfortunately a lot worse then me, at least I got 85% of my kit before the "cone of silence" fell over Don and CRII. Those of you that have followed the build thread know i.e. "crap I never got a COO from Don"

I have DVs back on the whole "there is a buyer for CR working to get this done" deal. I know who it is, I have talked to him personally and when I convinced (well actually pleaded and cried) DV to build my car. There was a discussion with this buyer to use our build as a starting point for all new documentation on building CRIIs. Thats why DV has taken 100s of pictures of the build to document all the stuff that was not in Don's manual.

On one side, I'm still pissed at the way my dealings with CRII progressed. Thats in the past and can not be fixed. All we can do is hope that this kit (which after a year of comparisons to the others out there) continues to live on and with the help of craftsman like DV, only gets better.

There's a lot of scary crap happening in the country today and I feel blessed to be able to continue down the road with this "cough cough" expensive hobby of mine (I know DV is laughing his a$$ off on that comment)

Keep the faith people..... Really good things can come out of this mess.

my $0.04 (recession/depression adjusted)

Snakeracer turned into Snake eraser. Thanks for the updates on CRII. As vague as they are it's good to know things are not dead....atleast not yet. I'm rootin' for the good guys here.

my .04 cents too.

I got mine in '99 from the old Classic Roadsters and lucked out as I hit the
window when they took good care of me. Don was a big help to me after
(and before) he took over and again I was lucky with the timing because he
was always there when I needed help. I just passed 21k miles which isn't
much considering our weather but one can only drive around the island so
many times and our gas is way more expensive here! I am hoping the deal
is settled soon and that the new owner can carry on in Don's tradition of great
service because I have learned that no matter what you have in your Cobra,
there is always something out there to make it a little bit better. That is
what is so great about this "family" - there is always someone out there with
helpful suggestions and answers to questions. DV's help in the interim is just
another great example of those who are willing to share their expertise to
those of us who need it so we can continue. All I can say is thanks.

Have been away from Club Cobra for several years. I'm sorry to hear about CRII and certainly hope for the best for a quality product.

What's the likelihood of obtaining a front clip from CRII or anyone for that matter? (had a small-l-l-l-l-l mishap).

Jeff
