Flooding at the gas station

So when I built my CR I used the standard gas cap/inlet that Don supplied with the car. It's a real treat to fill up the car and douse your spouse with gasoline.... Any suggestions on changes that I could make to make this issue less of one?? As the gas reaches the top it squirts out and I don't think I ever actually fill the tank..

That has been the same problem with CR's from day -one. Venting is the problem, filer cap is actually made for a boat with an external vent system while the CR vent is just below the fill neck using the same tube for air as well as filling. The Lemans type cap will usually fix the problem.

The only other solution is not a solution at all really, but simply put the gas in very slow........

Remember the Vapor cannisters of yesteday on, at that time, modern cars? I was always going to disconnect the vent line from the fuel filler neck, run the hose up as high as I could get it then run it to a vapor cannister?? Never did-failed once and it would be ruined.

I do have a device that I use to fill up my Harley that seems to work pretty well. Maybe I will just pick up another one at Cycle gear and keep it in the cobra..

I just grab about 6 paper towels and stuff them in and around the filler nozzle and the lemans cap. When the gas decides to splash back it's held in check by the towels. Then I just toss them into the trash. I hope nobody follows it up with a cig butt, that could be bad.

More thoughts on venting: Ford uses a "roll over" valve for their tanks from the olate 90's. Small litle valve but should be big enough to handle the ventige.

A 3/4"(?) hole cut into the top of the tank, the valave then pushed in (Factory has an OEM rubber grommet fo it). Once installed a small hose is attached to it via the factory barbed end. This valve will not let fluid out but it will allow air to pass.

This idea should work ---? Might be a little difficult to install in a used-partially filled gas tank though!

I have the rollover valve you're talking about and have it mounted as high as possible in the fenderwell. It's plumbed with a 5/8" hose coming from a fitting from the top of the tank. I haven't tested it in a rollover but it don't work worth sh!t when filling the tank. 15-16 gallons takes forever.
