Default body work in phoenix

Guys.I am finishing the final body prep before painting there is a fiber cowling that attaches to the bottom side of the front intake opening just before the radiator. I've seen other cobras that use aluminum and that I believe looks good. Does anyone know of a good fabrication shop in phoenix that can do this type of work? I can also use the original piece of fiberglass but I am not good at bondo and it would probably come out looking pretty bad. Also I am looking at having Manny at Extreme Auto body do the painting but he did not seem to want to mess with fabricating any of the body. Last little details always seem to be the hardest!

Scott,
A surpise for you-for once a good one! You want to use the fiberglass piece you are talking about. If it happens to be a thick one, grind the entire thing down from the back side until you can flex it a little with both hands. Once done, install it. You can use large headed rivets 1/8-3/16's. Rivet it just below where it meets the upper one. Now a little body work to cover up the seam. It doesn't have to be real pretty but no large "humps" please. Now for the pretty part, the alumnium you see in many Cobra noses is nothing more than 12" roof flashing that you can cut with a pair of scissors. It takes apiece about 6" long to be installed in the nose. I think I have pictures of the whole thing in my gallery or in the slightly larger than life forum about "the other Ed and DV's Cobra build.
Hope it helps- note hard to do at all!

Forex,
Take no offense please, just a suggestion. Brent Mills the owner of this sight has spent a fortune running and operating one of the finest forums on the net.

Since your post is obvious and directly aimed at a commercial service it would be nice and expected that you purchase a commercial account with 'Brent-Club Cobra" to advertise your business.

Uh, Sorry if this sounded like advertisement. I can purchase a commercial account but I have no "business" to advertise. I will make it a point however to not mention any other businesses that I am doing business with.

BTW, Whose Forex?

Scott,
That was not ment against you. Forex had posted after yours and it was an advertisment for a body shop type of buisness. He also had another post that was advertising for something else on another post. "spammer" It was reported and his posts were removed. That is why it seems a bit confusing. What DV posted to Forex had nothing to do with you.

Your cool, you were/are just looking for help.

Thanks Guys I was a little confused.

Anyway I am just finishing up the fiberglass work on the nose pan. It was in two pieces (another story) and I had to bondo and rivet them together. Today I am going to attach it and start working with the flashing. I am not to good at this detail stuff but I'll do my best. As my buddy always says "a little paint and putty makes it all look good

BTW, I am going to purchase the lovers and front air vent covers. Is finishline the place to go? Do I need to do some fabrication to get them to fit? I'll search the forum to got some info but I would appreciate any input.

Thanks,
ScottS

While I am thinking about. Has anyone installed a steering column bezel on the engine firewall side. I think a finished look instead of just the fiberglass is better. Just a thought.

Thanks,
Scotts

Scott,
Sorry, but no to everything. No room for a bezel on the front of the column. Maybe a nice rubber grommett that you can cut flat obn one side.

Finishlines louvers are made for FFR and to be quite honest without looking for a squabble they look like an FFR louver, besides they will not fit CR's.

Front air louver covers from Finishline are not even close to CR's- hardware store to get some hardware cloth or you CAN order just a sheet of the stuff from Finishline, very easy to cut and Marglasss in place.
I just installed them in cpteddies Cobra.

Looks Real Good.

I guess it's off to the hardware store. I did see the mesh sheet at finishline so I will probably get that. Details details..

Thanks Again,

Ed,
I sent Scott a PM because it is specific to our location and a store selling material to make brake vent covers out of.
Jeff C

PS.... The expanded alum. material is used in the plaster or lathe trade. So try a Lathe supplier store. Jeff C

They sell it at home depot as well. A sheet of it of rather large size is only about 7 bucks..

Also, (sorry to be so anal) but do I need to fabricate the side louvers? From the earlier posts that what it sounded like.

Thanks Again,

Scott,
You can powder coat anything metal. You can not use standard bondo. The powder coater has special filler that needs to be used.

DV put in some aftermarket louvers in capteddies Cobra. I believe he had to modify the body. Check out capteddies build thread. It might show something there.

Yes you can powder coat the metal mesh. I have a set I powder coated black. Some day I will actually put them in.
