Default hood problem

I have a 429/460 with a stealth intake/ 780 holley and it appears to be too tall for my hood scoop. Is it normal to cut the hood and either rivit a new scoop on or re-glass the exsisting hood. should the top of the carburetor be on line with or below (or above it) the top of the body? My carb is 2 to 2 1/2 inches above the plane of the body (front and back of hood) I hope this is normal. any suggestions or help. Thanks Jay

Jay,

I had the same issue with scoop clearance with a small block and a high rise manifold. DV had to cut the scoop out raise it and re-glass.

I see DVs finally back online, so he can throw in any additional details

Jay, I hope to heck it is normal for the Carb to be above the base line of the fenders!
If you glass it, the way I do it is truly cut down from the top of the scoop about 1" all the way around the scoop. I then split the scoop in half from front to back. I add what ever height I need then add about an inch +/- to the center.

Measurements are critical from side to side or your scoop will end up being crooked! (Been there-done that!)

I can't remember the height I raised Ed's-shame on me!

Thank you for the help. I will cut the hood the same as DV did. This really helps....maybe I will be able to sleep tonight. Again, the help is appreciated. Jay
