Looking for Louvers to fit CRII
Hello fellow cobra fans:
When I first started this journey of having my very own Cobra I joined this forum, maybe 2001 or 2002. I have no idea what my ID and Password are anymore, so I've rejoined.
Anyway, I'm down to the last item that I need. The item is a set of side vent louvers to fit the Classic Roadsters II body (White gel coat body, not grey.. which is another story). Anyone have any suggestions? I ordered a pair from Shell Valley but they wont fit.
The hole is roughly 4.5" tall, and 7.5" long. I've attached pics as well.
Can anyone help? Any suggestions short of having a fab shop build them?
On a side note, this would be the last of the CRII cobra's, I will probably be coming back to this forum and giving the skinny about my experience obtaining this car. (From Gary Rutherford at CR to Don Scott at CRII, and all the steps in between).

jbr,
Sounds like you have the history down pat....The louvers for CR's has never changed, from the late 80's to when Don closed, they are all the same. Finish Line, nor anyone elses will fit that I know of.
Cpt eddie ordered custom louvers from Austraila (?), they did come close to fitting but I still had to modify the body to put them in. Something I don't think you would want to do if your car is already painted!
If you find any that are a direct fit- we're all ears!

Ed/DV Combs:
I've heard great things about this forum, and obviously they are true. Thanks for the quick reply. I did an exhaustive search on the internet to figure out how these louvers should look.
It appears some people just mount them on the inside of the body, set back a little, which would mean the oversized ones would still work, but probably not look so great. The nicer ones appear to fit within the cutout, putting the fins further to the outside, which probably actually allows them to function.
Looks like I'll have to contact the local tinners shop, and have them fabricate something out of stainless that will work. How do most people attach them? Do they bond them to the inner fiberglass wall?
Of course it would have been great if the parts where actually supplied when I bought the kit, but I guess thats water under the bridge by this point.
I'm also looking for a good car cover. Probably one for the garage, and a waterproof one for the just in case purposes. I do have a soft top for the car as well, but I'm not liking the idea of adding the rivets/buttons along the back of the car to attach it. Maybe some day in the future. Right now its too sexy to mess with. I know the CR Cobra is a little longer and wider, so I might get stuck with a non-custom one. Any thoughts?

Custom Louvers
Hello JBR,
I live in Phoenix and had custom louvers fabed for my CR (which is not a CRII) ZI assume the cutout did not change from the original CR. Anyway the shop that created the louvers is JPF MetalWerks Inc. Owner is Casey Jackson, in Mesa Arizona (480-430-3912). I've attached a couple of pictures of the louvers. I just had these done so he may still have the specs.

How easy? Can you remove them once they are in? I went to Finish Line and took a look. Are they SST or Alum? They look SST but you never can tell what your gonna get. Theres a guy on Ebay that has them in SST and Alum. Alum is around $80 and SST is $150.

In my case it was just a matter of making the correct brackets to hold them in. Everyone comments on how nice they look. They are AL.

JBR, I have a Wolf's cover. It fits a CR II very well. It will not blow off as the fit is very tight. It is supposed to be water repellant.

Installation:
The louvers for any CR'S louvers are put in with strictly caulk. I have used regular household caulk to Silicon. The entire point is to be able to remove them if needed, not so much the right side but definitely the left.
The reason being, to be able to remove the louver which makes accessibility to the Master Cylinder actually easy.
