I called and fessed up, and apparantly the small town DOT place I went to did not file things right. So I was asked to complete an inspection, even though I already had the title.
I bought a metal tag, that did not have any numbers on it, but had a cobra emblem on it. Had a local jewlry store etch in the make, model, year, and VIN# and placed in under the hood.
During inspection, they dont require a tag, but they do want numbers somewhere (frame, body), or they will send you a film to place on your windshield, which is what they do with classic cars. At least this is what I was told. Since I already had a tag created the inspection person simply recorded the location and confirmed the information.
When I register for tags next year I have to have the passed inspection form with me at that time, planning on getting specialized paltes then anyways.
Of course state to state, this varies, but mine is registered/titled in Minnesota.
