First post, Planning "Electric Roadster

Hello all,
My name is Jeff McCabe.
Im in the planning and searching phase for my next EV build. Yes electric.
I have driven my current EV for three years now, Here it is, bye the way....

It is a high performance conversion. It accelerates faster then it did when it was powered by a V8. This is nice, but not in a same league as a Cobra.
So what im looking for is a partially built or unstarted kit. I like the FFR Roadsrer , because Im 6'4" tall and have sit in one and know I fit well.
The motor and controller I will be using is capable of over 300hp and 700 plus pounds of torque. You got to love big electric motors

My design goal is 0-60 in 3 secounds and a finished weight of 2,000lbs. or less.
Well, once again" HELLO" to all and I look forward to talking to many of you about my hair-brained idea.

There are two or three ev cobras in your area now. they are quite impressive. Good luck with your build.

I think there's a guy in the North Bay that built an electric Cobra Coupe.

Keep an eye on the Bay Area Cobra Club section for an upcoming breakfast so you can check out a variety of Cobras in person.

Hello Doug,
I met the guy who made both the coupe and cobra at a Laguna Seca track day I did last July.
I wont have nearly the budget he had, but thats ok. Didnt have nearly the budget of the other 928 Porsche conversion and my will run circle around his

Like the guys said ... Welcome! If you want to know about Cobras, you came to the right place and an EV Cobra sounds very interesting

I saw Jeff for a time on saturday at the Ranch , - and urged him to join CC, and the BACC to come and get to know the people.

His porsche is an interesting project, I cant wait to see the FF he wants to build.

Be sure and save a few watts for speakers in the fake side pipes so it can make VROOM noises as you accelerate.

Jeff,

Welcome to the club. When you get started on your build be sure to post pictures. What kind of battery are you going to use and where will you mount it in the Cobra? With that much torque, you will need some weight on the rear wheels for sure or just have to ease into it. Also how far can you drive before having to recharge?

Hello Ron,
The pack will have lithium batteries, with one box in front and one in back. It will have a smaller back than my Porsche. Will probably have a range between 50-80 miles.

Jeff are the Lithum battery packs a custom size , or can you make a little matrix out of them.

I was thinking it would be interesting to see WHERE you could stuff batteries so you could balance the car --

The individual moduiles can be located where ever their is room or to optimize weight balance and placement. the problem is the batteries like to be at the same temperature for best range and lifespan. So I will have the rear pack in place of where the gas would be and the front pack will be rear of the front suspension cross brace , mounted low.

Jeff: When you get serious about engines sounds, I have some old records that might be useful: Sounds of Sebring, 1958 ('58 Ferrari Testa Rossa), Bonneville 1960 (Mickey Thompson's 4-Pontiac Streamliner, 32 cylinders) and others. I'll even let you record my Cobra going through the gears (600 HP up to 6200 RPM), but you'll have to make me a copy for my collection).

I live in Santa Cruz and I am also planning an electric Cobra. I've done some research into kit vendors and motors. It seems that you have practical experience with battery packs. I would like to talk with you about our plans and see where we can help each other.

Anyone else who is reading this and seriously interested in developing an electric Cobra, please let me know.

Jeff - great to meet you on Saturday. I was just forwarded this link: http://www.carguygarage.com/soundracer.html. If you can figure out how to put a radio into the electric Cobra, this might be all that you need. Perhaps you can install it in the 928 for now.
