New to Site - Quick Question to the pros

I sold a FF Cobra with a 302 three months ago. Bad mistake. Had fun with it and sold for reasons I cannot post here, LOL. Anyway, I found two Cobras I like, both Backdraft and I want the Boards opinion. Here are my choices:

1) Brand new Backdraft Cobra with a 347 Ford Crate. 25 miles on the car. Maroon with creme stripes, tan hides. Looks like 15" wheels. 38K + delivery = 40K

2) Black on Black Two year old Backdraft with 2100 miles and upgrades with a 402 Roush motor. 17" wheels and chrome package. 42K plus delivery = 44K.

Really looking forward to everybody's input. Thanks!

From your 2 options it seems 10% will get you 60% more fun... as usual.

TheChicagoKid 03-21-2011 08:01 PM

You mean spending the 4 grand more on the Roush? What do you think about the resale with already having 2100 miles on it? Thanks for your earlier response!

Cashburn 03-21-2011 08:13 PM

1k miles a year? That's pretty standard for a "replica"... I'd spend the 4 grand more on a 402/408 over the 347 if it means getting a better color combo, 17" wheels, etc. I think the price is fair for the 402.

38k for a new car with a 347 sounds low depending on what the actual details of the 347 are.

Thanks Cashburn! I am really torn between the two. The 347 has the Tremac 5 speed, no power steering or brakes. The 402 has power brakes, and all the bells and whistles. Can't make up my mind. Quality problem I guess.

Cashburn 03-21-2011 09:13 PM

All BDRs have power brakes.

Listen to Jay (Cashburn). He knows his stuff, plus black is simply badass!

My vote #2, I have driven BDR's with PS and without, without PS stearing is light even with a 14" wheel no problems. with B on B, 17" wheels and R402 under the hood. If it's been taken care of and well sorted hard to turn down over #1.

Let us know

402 in black...
No brainer!

When it comes to resale value, number two has number one beat by a longshot. Tan interior is not that popular when it comes time to sell.

To each his own, I guess. I have a red replica and the tan looks very nice with the red, so much so that it was one of the positive aspects of the car when I was searching.

I'd go for the 2 year old car, though. The 347 small block can be a bit "twitchy", depending on how it has been built (and that may be a lot of fun on a racecourse), but the 402 will be more fun to drive on the street.

The old saying "There's no replacement for displacement" is true!

In addition, while 15" tires are desirable from an "originality" standpoint, the 17" wheels will make it easier to find good rubber.

Good luck, let us know how it goes, OK?

Cheers from Dugly

Thanks for all the great replies. I have an offer out on the 402. Waiting to hear from the finance department tomorrow morning.

Just wanted to catch everybody up. Bought the 402R Black on Black. It ships from Florida Monday. I will post pictures when it gets to Cali, hopefully Thursday or Friday of next week.
