Hi guys - New Cobra Owner needs help TX Smog?
Hi guys,
Just purchased a 66 Replica from California...:... If someone could point me in the right dorection I'd gretaly appreciate it.
The car has I believe something called MB100...this gave it a smog exemption in CA? There is a sticker under the hood with a bar code on that I believe is scanned? Anyways I live in Dallas, the car is currently being shipped here, I have a certificate of title and so forth and know I have to register to get new plates for TX. I have insurance already but wondered what I need to do regarding smog if anything here? Any help would be greatly appreciated... Thanks!

Congratulations on your new toy.
As for registration....if the car is titled as a 1966, there is no smog requirement even in an area like Dallas where smog is part of the annual inspection required of all cars.
Just take it to an inspection station, they will give you a green sheet ( it is actually white...lol ), take that and proof of insurance and go the tax assessor's office, fill out the title application and you should walk out with plates. Should be very easy.
Good Luck

Welcome to the forum. There is a pretty active Cobra Club up in the DFW area. Hit them up and join in the fun. I'm sure some of them will chime in after awhile.

Sean, I just thought about something....you might ought to bring your bill of sale with you. Remember, there is going to be a 6.25% sales tax on the price you paid, plus title application fee and license.
Go have fun with your new toy.

Sean,
Congrats on the Cobra purchase. As stated above a big group here in DFW. We meet first Saturday of every month for breakfest in summer (hot) and then lunch fall/winter/spring. Lots of other events in the area and Texas/Oklahoma. How about some information and pics of the Cobra?

Thanks Russ! I don't know that much about them...Only that I always wanted one in this color scheme....Never had an 8 cylinder before either...so I must say it was fun driving her....nearest thing I've ever owned was an old 64 MGB..... great little sports car....I got in this thing and nearly dropped my left testicle when I put the pedal down!! ha.
I'll likely post in the DFW section but Im going to want to locate the best mechanic in the Dallas area for when I need stuff done (not a mechanic) and also best person to detail.... I must say also that this forum seems a great place to meet others. I'm looking forward to going to some socials to meet other owners and learn some more!
Cheers
Sean
