Default New Shelby Cobra CSX-4507 Owner

Hello Everyone: I now have my 40 year dream. It is number 7 of 8 carbon fiber series produced by Shelby. I am told they will no longer build them. I am wondering if anyone in the group has ANY manuals on the frame (car). Assembly, electrical, alignment, etc. Any help would be appreciated. I put a 1965 427FE side oiler with dual holley's in it. Sure runs nice. Let me know if there is any manuals out there. Thanks, Joe.

This site here is your best bet. Lots of people more than willing to help.

Welcome aboard, and share pics of your new Shelby CF Cobra.

Default Sadly, the answer is "No."

Congrats on the car, Joe. Sadly, the answer is "no" to getting any sort of quality manuals for your CSX car. From time to time, a new thread will get started where someone says "I'm writing a CSX manual" but it invariably dies on the vine. There are, supposedly, CSX assembly manuals out there, but I am told that they are guarded like nuclear secrets. But, what the heck, let's start another thread on this subject. Here's a telling post from the last time we waltzed down this aisle.

Congratulations on the car. I know you will really enjoy it. As mentioned above, there really isn't any manual. However, the car is pretty simple and easy to figure out. As far as electrical and alignment goes call Shelby and asked for the Cobra department. They were happy to send me a schematic and alignment specs. They have been very helpful to me. If you have any specific questions I will be happy to help if I can.

... of course some folks might be tempted to say "WTF?!? I spend a hundred grand on a car and they won't even give me a goddam manual for it?"

Pavlov's dog. I knew Patrick would respond as soon as I read the title of this thread. The only thing he's forgotten is a plug for ERA since they're the only manufacturer to have a complete written manual.

Congrats on your carbon car. You should be hearing from twobjshelbys who has one that's green with yellow stripes. I think he has it for sale too.

BTW, this thread is useless without some pics.

There is no manual... There wasn't one on my Jeep either although I could get a third party shop manual if I wanted. Like was mentioned earlier, every once in a while someone threatens to make one but never gets motivated enough to follow through.

Start tracing wiring now in your spare time.

By the way, mine is one of the Shelby CSX carbon fiber cars too. The body is flawless. I think the HST guys spent a lot of time trying to get these ones right.

From the period of time, I'm guessing yours was a fairly late production car. At the time I got mine in Jan, 2009 there were supposedly only 6 CF cars. Two of them are in the LA (Latin America) series and may have been the first ones but I can't confirm that. In any case the CF cars were only produced by HST International. HST went out of business about a year ago. Shelby American rescued their molds which were also used to make some portion of the Shelby Fiberglass cars. Without getting into an argument of whether HST or HiTech made the best glass cars, I will stand by my claim that my CF roller is one of the best looking rollers I've ever seen be it anyone's fiberglass or even some of the aluminum ones.

As for the shop manuals I've wished I had them. Even more so I wish I had a build sheet so I could find out exactly what components were used to build it. For example when my clutch master bought the farm a manual would have made it easy to get the proper replacement. To their credit, the Cobra guy at Shelby American answered the question right off the top of his head quickly. So make use of them. Start with Gary Patterson. Maybe if they get enough calls they'll realize they will save time by producing documentation

What color combination is yours? Mine is British Racing Green (the code is Jag paint) with Sunburst Yellow (which is some Mercedes paint code).

I hope you will drive it like you stole it.

Yes, we need some pictures.

Cheers,
Tony

In the meantime, if everyone that at least made a half-ass attempt at starting their manuals would post what that they did do, that would be better than nothing. ERA does that with some of its stuff. There's things up on the owners' page that clearly state "This is a work in progress; it's not done; but it's better than nothing, so here it is." But I doubt you'll even get that. Mostly what you get on the CSX Manual issue are grandiose promises that slip away in to the dead of night never to be heard from again....
