Friend of Cobra Owner; Need Info On Value
Hi Cobra Peeps, I have a question for you; I'm sure this is the right place.
I have a friend of mine, an elderly gentleman, who owns an imaculate Cobra manufactured by Excalibur, the company commissioned by Ford to build street-legal replicas of the racing Cobras (which I'm sure you all know, forgive me if I'm stating the obvious). It's blue with white stripes and has a 427 powerplant. The one he owns in production number nine. He is eighty, and this is a lot of car for him; he mentioned he was open to selling it.
I am not acting as a broker and he has not said he wants to sell it. Because he is not computer savvy I thought I'd find out what his car might bring if he decided to sell it. Anyone out there have any thoughts?

No need to be snarky, friend. I'm not a Cobra expert. It was just a question, which is why I joined this forum.

The fact that it is an Excaliber doesn't make it more valuable than other replicas, IMHO. Here's a site that will give you and idea of the current Cobra replica market: 427 Cobra Country--Ford AC Cobra replica manufacturers SUPER-SITE

OK, let me translate my comment based on my odd sense of humor to something more direct.
I have a hard time believing that Excaliber was officially commissioned by Ford to build racing Cobra replicas. I believe that the nice old gentlemen that owns the car in question may have embellished the story of his car a bit. Some of us on this forum are used to being sold some snake- oil stories, and that claim about Excaliber just sound like another such story.

Fair enough. I'm going by what he told me, and he probably knows more about Cobras than I do. I'm sure you hear a LOT of questionable stuff about these cars on this forum; consider me to be a total newb when it comes to this model. I'm just trying to find out for my own sense of curiosity; I have absolutely no idea what my friend's car is worth, or what would be a fair price if he decided to sell it. I just want to make sure he gets a fair price for it if he does sell. Thanks for the info, and sorry if I took your response the wrong way.

The incorrect spelling of the manufacturer's name is not related my sense of humor, it is just poor spelling on my part...

Value varies greatly. Some pictures and specifics would help.
Cobra Country is a good place to start as stated above.
The market is still really soft. Not a good time to sell, but a great time to buy.

Also ask him what 427 FE engine it is in there. A top oiler, side oiler, what heads and intake, 1x4 or 2x4, cam solid or hyd lifters, steel or cast crank etc...... And also who built or rebuilt the engine and current condition.

If he is 80 and has owned a Cobra since he was 65 or so (probably younger) he already knows what the car is worth (and what he paid for it). In fact I would be surprised to find out he wasn't a member of Club Cobra at one time or another, although you did say he tended to be Computer illiterate so - maybe not a member.

Dollars to doughnuts he already knows, so just go ask him.

I am sure he does also and even better probably knows both what a fair price is and what he would accept to part with it. Soooooo - back to the original recommendation, go ask him!

Magnum, here's some info that might be of interest.
From some digging I did a while back, it seems that Excalibur produced around 100 finished cars and kits between 1993 and 1997. The finished cars were compliant with U.S. safety and emissions standards of the day, which is almost unheard of in the world of Cobra replicas.
I think most factory-made cars were powered by 302s, so either this one had a heart transplant or was a kit.
And here are some links to the brochure for the 1994 Excalibur Cobra, to a different brochure for the 1994 Excalibur Cobra, and for an Excalibur Cobra advertisement.
Hope these links are useful.

Excalibur Info
I would be happy to provide info I have on these cars, as you can see I have one. Their are two nice ones currently listed on ebay. They have been listed multiple times this year with no buy it now at their asking prices. You can contact me at mduke8@gmail.com

I thought they made fancy old fashioned Mercedi's out of big Ford Barges. Sorry, not meaning to be snarky but just sayin'. I haven't heard of them in any other venue.
(EDIT) I wrote without researching the topic, some years ago a friend of mine had a replica of a antique car (I think Mercedes) he called it an Excaliber. It was based on some kind of huge production Ford. This lead me to my above comment,...for which I sincerely apologise.
