hello, youngster here
Hey all from louisiana. Tomorrow I will be introduced to my future wife (66-67) cobra replica. I'm 24 years old. My father is passionate about his two ford model a's and I believe his hobbies are starting to rub off onto me. Himself and a few buddies started a local group of collectors/riders/restorers and one of his buddies may be considering letting his cobra go Just wanted to introduce myself and I'm praying everything goes smooth tomorrow morning. I've never been so anxious ready to bring it home already and haven't laid eyes on her yet

I got my first muscle car when I was about your age, and my first Corvette just a few years later. So, I can well understand your excitement and enthusiasm. I wish you well in your pursuit of this car. .... But, I also raised two sons and I know the dangers of testosterone poisoning. Unless you have already have a LOT of experience driving high performance cars, you are not likely prepared for how quickly a Cobra replica can get out of control and kill you. It is not like any other car you likely have driven, and most have nowhere near the safety equipment common in modern cars. It is only because I care about your safety that I urge you to get professional high performance driver training on a race track BEFORE you try to go quick or fast in a Cobra.

You might also want to look into insurance before you outlay a huge chunk of money. Getting a policy for one of these things at 24 yrs old may be quite difficult or at the very least quite costly.
Good Luck and be careful, if I had one of these things at your age I may not have survived.

All in favor say "I" to being careful. The joy of driving a Cobra is not always in the speed of the car, but just the feeling of being out in the open and the smiles it puts on people seeing the car on the road.

I was thinking exactly that - probably would have gotten into some serious hurt if I had my car at your age. I know you don't want to hear this from a bunch of older folks, but it's good advice nonetheless.
Regarding insurance, my agent didn't know of any policy that would insure someone under 25. Doesnt' mean it doesn't exist, just hard to find.
Good luck - Christmas in July!

I'm sure I could figure out a way to get insured, and I'm expecting the power to be a little disappointing lol I've spent most of my off time on 2 wheels w/170hp. Ready to upgrade to something classy, on 4. Another thing is, the cobra I'm looking at wasn't built with the 427 and is on a chevy 350. Not sure what numbers I'd be looking at but I'm guessing around 250 275. Thanks for the help guys I appreciate all I can read

I would suggest that you call a few insurance companies, such as Midwest, State Farm or Haggerty and explain your situation and see what they say. It might be possible, you never know until you ask.

teenwhite,
Would you assume that a guy who has been driving high performance cars could slide onto a 170 HP motorcycle and be as safe as someone who has been riding one for years? Neither do I. If you underestimate the challenge of driving a Cobra, or overestimate your driving skill, you do so at your own great peril. My earlier advice still applies.
