Default New to the forum hoping you guys can help me out

Good afternoon everyone

New to the forum here and was hoping you guys could help me out with a co at wuestion. Mods if I'm in the wrong section I'm Sorry. So I'm trying to help my father in law out with his cobra. Forgive me because I only have limited info on the vehicle and we're states away.

So he has a cobra that I beleieve is a B&B car or an LA EXOTICS car. The poet work he has from when he bought it way back when has flyers for both company's. There is also a build sheet with some options from B&B.

Vehicle was registered on the road at one point. However now California emissions is saying the cobra cannot be registered and driven on the roadway even though it was previously registered back in 0&. He has a verification of vehicle from the California inspection place yet they are stating that it's a 2016 even tho it was registered as an 08. He is at the point that he wants to sale it as he's frustrated with California mvd giving him the run around.

So my question is what is the process of verifying the manufacturer as well as things needed to verify everything on this thing so that it could be provided to a new seller or verify the year and stuff of the cobra so that he could register it and have it driveavle again.

Sorry for the all over the place message I'm just trying to help him and this is kind of all the info I have gotten. I have a vin from when it was registered back in 08 but no title just a bill of sale is what my impression is of everything.

Thanks in advance.

So it's a little hard to understand, but I think the time sequence is that the car was at one time registered in California, but the last time of record is 2008 and the car has not had a valid registration since then. The owner is now trying to register the car again.

Is this correct?

If so I suspect what is happening is that the owner is now running into the complications of SB100 registration process for replica vehicles. Since the registration lapsed it would have to start that process all over again. SB100 has been discussed on this forum many times. It's not a really complicated process but it is a rule-laden process with lots of steps. Those steps seem to be easier in certain locations because of the experience level of the state people that are involved. So knowing where you are located might help others point you to the right people.

Good luck!

Correct he is attempting to re register it and they are not very easy to deal with I'm getting. He is trying to register it in the San Jose area if I'm not mistaken but he's been twice now and has been met with tons of resistance. He is also thinking of selling it due to the headache he's running into or attempt to ship it out here to phx az and register it here as our emissions s aren't as bad as californias. I will research the SB100 as this is all new to me.

Also if he decides to sale it what is the easiest way of going about determining who the builder is so that we had all the correct info to give to new buyer

SB100 is not complicated, but the owner (you ), but you need to follow the directions to the letter.

Pictures of the engine compartment, front and rear suspension, frame rails, and all four corners of the body will go a long way to helping you figure out what you have on your hands.

If the vehicle was registered correctly in 2008 and then he let it lapse and has to register it again, then it is going to show the year that he registers it. If he registers it this year it will show as a 2017 SPCS on his registration.
