Thank you - New Backdraft Owner
I originally posted this over on the Backdraft Owner's thread and just saw this "Introduce yourself" section so thought I would repost here (forgive me, still learning to navigate the forum)...
Everyone, I just want to offer my thanks to this awesome community for helping me buy my dream car and understand the hell that is MA registration/inspection. I have bought BDR #1589 from Jay and Brian at VMS and it is being delivered on Wednesday. This was an in-stock car that I learned about after meeting Brian at the CT Dream Ride show. Brian was showing off their awesome Copperhead and was gracious enough to let me sit in it and show me I could fit in a BDR much better than the three F5s I had tried. My dream of owning a Cobra was renewed. When he said he had one ready to go in Guardsman Blue (my preferred color) I was at their shop a few days later to test drive it and left a deposit.
I must have spent 50 hours reading posts and following links offered here on ClubCobra to learn more about the hobby, the cars, driving experiences, BDR, VMS, MA regulations (ugh) etc etc. It has been an amazing resource and one I look forward to contributing too in the near future.
Now to get the thing on the road! I am patient, have read all the state rules and advice posted here. As a result, I have also bought a beater 1971 Buick Centurion with a 455ci motor that was somehow still legally on the road until 2016 That will also be delivered this week (too heavy to tow via UHaul) in order to be sacrificed to the DEP gods to get my Cobra emissions cleared (confirmed Buick's VIN with Paul Davis beforehand thanks to advice on ClubCobra).
I know it will take while but I am optimistic I will get my first shot behind the wheel before the snow falls!
Also, if anyone knows of a local club or two in eastern MA, RI, or NH, please let me know how to get in touch and on their mailing lists. Thanks!
