Possible Cobra Owner
Hey everyone. My name is Chris, and I've always had a thing for the Shelby Cobra (or at least a replica of one). I have a 71 Chevelle SS454, with a ~600hp BBC and a 4-speed. I have always wanted a Cobra, and am serisouly considering buying a kit and building one now. The plans for the car are to have a 427 Big Block Chevy, and either an M-22 4-speed or an OD manual trans. I figured I'd stop by and introduce myself, as I plan on lurking and learning as much as possible in the near future.
Thanks,
Chris

If you going to put a Chevie motor in a Ford, just buy a VW.

That's the step I'm at right now. I found the Hurricane-Motorsports kit, and it seemed like the greatest bang-for-the-buck, and that's what has sparked my interest. I have also looked at Hunter's Cobra, Superformance, and Factory 5.
As of right now, I'm leaning towards the Hurricane kit. It comes complete (no donor car needed), and is in my price range (depending on if I keep my '00 Z/28 or not). I have been doing my research and there doesn't seem to be a downside to their kit.
Any opinions on who to go with?
Chris

I was real worried about the registration process here in NY, so I went with a used Superformance from out of state. I also went used b/c I felt I got more bang for the buck. I also know that I could always change almost any aspect, other than color, later on.

Where in NY are you? I live on Long Island, specifically in Hicksville. Whats the problem with the regi process here. I see alot of kit's running around, so I figured the smog/regi couldn't be too bad.

err, Lake Grove, which is on LI. Apparently the regi process isn't too bad, but I have zero experience with it, and my tolerance for crapola from gov't officials is less than zero. I just wanted to drive and not get delayed. Drive, drive, drive...if you know what I mean.
Do a search in the LI Cobra Forum here and see if you get any hits on 'NY Registration. Should give you some more info.

Me too! My experience with them so far has been awesome! Mike always replies to my emails in a reasonable manner. i placed my deposit and had my assembly manual all the way in Iraq in abotu a 1 1/2 weeks. That's extremely fast considering sometimes it takes up to a month to recieve stuff from companies like amazon!
I have been nothing but pleased with hurricane, and they continue to evolve! They've got a soft and hard top option coming soon which will be cool! Did you look at shell valley also? Hurricane and shell valley are alot alike in completeness and price.

Chris,
a friend of mine will be having an LA Exotics (B&B) coming up for sale soon.
Red with a 351W. Probably will be around $38 to $40K.
He is located in Hampton, NJ. Will post details in the For Sale section once I have them.
