Dean,
Really looking forward to your build! Hoping to be able to order by 01/2011. Are the axles provided with the IRS standard ford units? If so, do you think there will be any issues with a high HP big block? I know the cars are light but just curious what your thoughts are.

Hey Dean
I'm working on my parking brake handle right now and am going to install the longer Lokar handle. I felt like it was closer to original than the standard Lokar handle. I'm making a change-over bracket for mine.
I don't know if it's a big deal to you but if you decide you'd like the longer handle or Paul's mod to the standard Lokar, make the change before installing the cockpit pan! It's a PITA on mine and I wish I had made a bracket change before proceeding with pan.

Tires
BF Goodrich Radial TA 245/60R15 (front) 295/50R15 (rear) are the standard tires in the wheel packages offered by Hurricane. Goodyear Billboards are available as an upgrade and special requests can be accomodated and priced accordingly.

Thanks for the comments. I haven't seen the long lokar handle. Would you be able to post some pictures? As for the axles, I don't think they are factory ford due to the narrow track but I'm sure they are similar. Steve can answer that for you. The weak link in a cobra drive line is the tires. It will be hard to break things if you aren't;t on a drag strip. If you are a drag racer, then go with the 9 inch rear. This IRS is as strong or stronger than any thing I have seen but then again thats just my opinion.
Here are some pictures of the IRS in the car.

Thanks Steve,
Good to see you on the board. Also glad to see that you guys are offering the Billboards; I really do like the look and may get a set next go around.
Some time ago, I recall the demand for Billboards was not being adequately met by Goodyear. Hurricane's offering them as an option will hopefully add to that demand, and keep Goodyear in gear.

With a little luck, I should have the brake handle in this weekend. I'll post a couple pics when I get it installed.

Suspension
A lot of consideration went into the suspension design. We recognized a need for tunability and to accurately make changes you need to know where you started. In a car that weighs roughly 2500 pounds, a good wheel rate for street driving would be 200 to 225lbs. For track days and racing you would want to target 275 to 300lbs as a wheel rate. With some measurements taken from our suspension components, we can accurately calculate the needed spring rates. The Hurricane roadster would need 500 - 550 pound springs all around on Dean's car for street driving but that's not his style. We decided to use 800lbs in the front and 750's in the back from Hyperco to get a wheel rate that is just slightly under the 300lb rate we targeted. We can do the balance of the suspension tuning with sway bars. We will post more on the sway bar math as Dean gets to that point in the build. For those of you that would like to check the accuracy of your spring rate here is a calculator that makes it fairly simply.

Now I wish I had waited until this year to order and build mine.
Dean,
Looks awesome, is the frame in POR-15 or is it powdercoated? Will both be availalbe as special order from HMS?

Frame Coating
The first two frames have been painted with Imron 5000 gloss black paint and look great. Hurricane is also offering powercoating for the frame and the POR 15 is still available. You can choose any of these three options to finish your frame.

As steve mentioned, the suspension is pretty well designed with the end user in mind. I did go with the Hyperco spring package and the adjustable QA1 shocks. Here are a few shots of the springs and shocks installed.

Well the suspension is all hung on the chassis and they are assembling the brake systems. Here are some pictures of the suspension.
In this picture you can see the 1/2 inch fuel line and the begining stages of the electrical work.

When we opened the boxes for the brakes there were a lot more little parts than I thought there would be. These brakes are from the big brake kit they offer.

Brent, I went to 6.700 rods and custom pistons. The original builder traded the rods out for me and I sold the old .080 over block and pistons to a guy who could use them. It will work out fine this way. I got enough for the block and pistons to offset the cost of the other stuff I needed for the rotating assembly.
