Default A few more pics

Progress is tedius but steady. Motor and trans mounts, done, seat belt bars in, gas tank mounted, oil tank fitted, battery tray figured out, most big components are accounted for like steering column, calipers, rotors, fuel pump, most hoses, fittings, etc. Frame should be painted next week. More pics then.

Trans mount

Oil tank fitted

X brace and bars for belts in

Another view with gas tank in place

there is a guy in town who i raced with and he is into building cars, built all his, like 3 from scratch. he is building an avenger right now, like a gt40, using an oldsmobile transaxle out of a toronado and chevy 350 for rear engine drive. looking at these pics reminds me of all the work he went through, and he is still working on it. takes time, and you don't want to rush it. looks like there was a bit of redesign on the chassis here.

Yes the chassis was tweaked a little where there was more room available bc of the coupe's slightly larger dimensions. I'd say nothing major but did take a little longer to fabricate. Of course the cage is new, and it turned out very nice and robust. The rear is new as well to go with the coupes shape and to house tank. I'm sure radiator will be tabbed up a little different too, but not much. Overall the design hasn't changed but it been tweaked quite a bit

Mat yhm, let me know if you didn't get it. Fatal failure error when I tried to send with pics, resent without.

Frame is getting painted today, may be finished by now. Can't wait to see how it turned out. Here are some before pics and after. The black on the frame is just primer. Frame will be satin black. Bolt on stuff and suspension stuff should be starting to go on tomorrow.

Looks excellent, Larry's workmanship is 2nd to none. In frame4, that body in the foreground of your coupe is no doubt mine.

Tires are NT-05s. They have a 200 treadwear rating. I think they are somewhat new for Nitto. They are in between NT01s (my Cobra track tires, 100 R type compound) and NT-55 (my grociery getter tires, dont know the wear compound on those).
I figured they would be great to get used to the car on the track and still be streetable. I'll probably be looking for a set of 18" wheels for track use only, but don't think the wife would understand that much $$$ showing up at the front door all at once.

That's an easy one...

Just make them show up at someone else's front door.

What offsets & backspacing did you go with, JBL offers several options.

Wheels are 17" Team III. 11" in rear with 6.5" BS and 9" fronts with 4.75" BS. Rear look good. Haven't seen the fronts on yet. Hope they fit too! Maybe we'll have the wheels on Saturday.

Front and rear fit will be perfect, Larry is an artist ...
Club Cobra - AL427SBF's Album: JBL Competition Roadster - Picture (pic is current, ignore date)
The stance of the JBL comp is also noticeable with slight increases in track/wheelbase and a "thinner" profile from frame rails to hood, makes you think all business

Line up all the replica cars with the same paint & trim, you might be able to pick out a few of the makes, the JBL you could point to immediately.

Have you ever measured ground clearance at the noise and have tried "aero skins" underneath? Richard mentioned that as an option not widely advertised, but with my taller gearing I asked Larry to put them in

i had to search but i found it. i was wondering the other day when somebody was asking about golfball dibits

Golf Ball dibits ? • Speed Talk

i know it was used on racing sailboats quite a while back.

i do the same thing when i try to paint something, flat black gives a nice shark skin appearance, especially if you don't have a line dryer...

Hadnt' posted in a while. I'll bring this back to the top. Coupe is coming along. Larry is fabbing up exhaust right now. Then it gets taken apart for for final assembly. A few of the suspension components weren't the final versions and motor is lacking HTOB anyway.

I heard there were a few interested parties in the Texas area following along. Shoot any questions to me or Larry.

Yep, they're Team III wheels. I also have the lug covers and spinners to go on them as well. I do think they're a great looking wheel.
