i'd also set the chassis to minimum ride height and check for tire clearance before the body is finalized......

I think as soon as Larry finishes with Mats Coupe he will start on one for me. I really like where he is going with this build and new product line. I love the coupe I have but the JBL has some serious components mine doesn't. Of course the price is considerably different than mine was too! Mat is trying to talk me into going with a 331 stroker but I think something more along the lines of a 392 stroker would be in order. He just wants to be able to out run me on the track. Sneaky very sneaky!!!

Mat and I keep in touch....

The 3.85" cranks are still available, but a lot have the 2.311" Windsor rod journal size.

How about a 363/369 ci engine based off of a Dart 302 block and a stroker crank? If you don't need A/C, a CD player, and a cup holder, I can work with you on the horsepower....hahaha

I would really miss the cup holder!

Once I commit how long will it take to put together a nice little hot rod engine (302 or 351)?

I'd say about 6-7 weeks if parts are not backordered, don't need any special head porting, etc.

What are you looking to do?

I really like the 351 based engines. I can't spend all the money Mat did on his engine and dry sump and I am not sure I need a Dart block either. When I get a little closer to making a deal with JBL I can talk to you a little more seriously about exactly what I want. Maybe we can roll several things together.

I'd be happy to work for you Clois.

The 351 based engines do quite well for themselves...

I really like Mats engine and I can't wait to see him drive it. I like what you have done with it. Quick question...have you ever used the P38 heads? If so are they as good as the Trick Flow or AFR 225?

Haven't used them yet, but I have a set of Kaase P-38 valve covers here in anticipation of a build with them.

I probably would have pitched them to Mat, but they weren't available when I was buying parts for his engine. I got to see a set and talk with Kaase's engine builder while I was down there.....they seem to do quite well and respond really well to porting. I think they'd be quite at home on a 393/408 build.

Canted valves are quite the ticket and it's easier to get the hp from them than on an inline head. Kaase heads, Cleveland heads, CHI, etc.....all big power makers.

kc has a nice 393 sitting in his special section, although it says 3.75 stroke so who knows, but dynoed 466/469.

doesn't take much though, playing with mat in his cobra 445 w/3.73 rear i could accelerate with him with my 351 w/3.55 up through 3rd gear, 4th was kind of a deal breaker, different setup of course but just an fyi. i rode with mat around the track a few times and it is so much different from the passenger side, i was ready to climb out after half a lap but hung on for more after i realized mat knew what he was doing!

clois--i didn't take a water pump you told me to take, but i knew i had at least one here and i just counted two in the shop, so between us we had 5. i did accept a radiator fill piece though, so i thank you, and it was good to be amongst all of you at hallet.

were you able to plumb the oil supply with a -16 90 deg. off the inlet and run it down the rail over the top of the pump or did you have to use a 120 deg, or something all together different?

Mark,

I have given away all my water pumps and most everything on the table I set up. Most of it was new or near new and I wanted it out of my garage. I did sell my sway bar set up. Glad dyou could use the fill tube. May be renting Hallett this spring for a little track day among friends.

By the way if Mat would post some new pictures of his build I think most of you would really be impressed with the quaility of work Larry is doing on his JBL Coupe. The headers and side pipes are immaculant!!

I'll see what I can do about some more pics.

Vector, I think a 90 will work, and it will be a -16. Worst case would be to add another fitting in the line to help make that bend. Yes it will go back over the pump and then over or under the starter.

Here's a couple more pics of sidepipes and headers. I think they're turning out real nice, Larry's doing a great job on them and getting them right. I love the access to the headers and collectors. Of course the tilt front helps too.

Sorry for lack of progress pics. Been crazy busy at work. I'll try to get some more pics this week to share. Engine/tranny are installed. Rear end pumpkin has been fit and rear suspension almost all installed, drive shaft just needs to be picked up I believe. Headers are done, pipes still need coating. Fuel lines are done, most of oil lines are done. Larry is mocking up dash right now to help test everything behind it. Looks good so far, should have plenty of room for everything. Might not be all that far off before we can fire the motor

As for Dailey's video, no. I do think I've read where it works very well though. Hopefully that big Peterson tank will do well with getting the air out. Not sure if that air oil seperator would fit, it might but not sure.

Mat
