Seems like a variety of sources were used on early cars. I have a picture of Dan Gurney's '63 Sebring Comp 289 car that has rear number plate lights for roundel illumination ...whatever was on hand, huh?
I'm using Massey Ferguson dash lights.

Success! It took two tries but it formed the sides from one piece. Will build a holding fixture to hold everything in place for the welder.

Thanks guys. But I’m going to remake the side panels. It slopes too much. Going to raise the front 1-1/2”

I remade the sides. I raised the front 1-1/2”. Now it more closely resembles the one I copied and better fits under the hood. There’s a small gap in one corner but I think it can be welded closed.

After a week at a local welder (term used loosely) I got my cold air box back. What a disaster! The welds look like Stevie Wonder did them. And the guy tack welded the bottom! He knew what I wanted so I’m not sure what he was thinking.

I spent 2+ hrs using a flap wheel on my grinder to blend all those stupid tack welds smooth. Then finished with 80 grit sandpaper to clean it up.

I then added notches to clear the fuel inlet fittings. Not an easy task with a hole cutter attached to a drill. But rigged up a fixture and accomplished it.

I turned my attention now to sanding the inside. First with 180 grit sandpaper and then 220 grit sandpaper.

After sanding the outside like I did with the inside, I started installing it on the engine only to find out the base warped enough to put half the mounting holes out of sync. I had to open most of the air horn and mounting screw holes. Laborious.

After installing and uninstalling way too many times, I finally got everything to fit.







Three days to clean up and finish. Whew! Glad it’s behind me

Very well done Bill. Looks nice and serves two functions. Not only does it provide cold air to the horns, but also serves as a nice container to hold jets, air correctors, etc. in case they slip out of your fingers. A lot easier then trying to fish them out of the manifold with everything in the way.

Spent today making an aluminum door panel.











I’m debating if I should epoxy two or three half ovals to the panel horizontally to replicate beading

Bill, I've just made an aluminium footrest for my car.....and you're making your own aluminium doors??

It's door panels you're making. I did wonder why you would be making doors when you are only a matter of weeks away from paint.

Still have to finish sand the panel and countersink the river holes. I use flush mount rivets
