Going to make a set of rear fender spats from satin black vinyl. Made a template. Will refine some more before transferring to the vinyl.

Bill, Just another option. It would be permanent though. Scuff with Scotchbrite pads. Truck bedliner in aerosol can. Topcoat with satin black. Bedliner will turn gray after awhile unless you topcoat it

Well, I went and visited the Factory Five Racing Co. yesterday. Left a bit disappointed.
The frames are very well engineered IMHO, but I think the bodies and interior finishes are a bit on the lesser quality side. I did like the lines of the 289 FIA car. But the seats seemed cheap, the dash material less than original looking and the motor is positioned so far back in the fame that it seems oddly placed.
Bill, I think the amount of work to change what I did not like on the kit would be as much work as you did using Mr Bruce's body.
My intent going there to see the FFR 289 was with the thought of stripping out the mechanicals of my CR1 and selling it off. Then using the mechanicals for the 289 kit.
So though my CR1 is far from anything remotely original, I will stay with it for the time being.

Wow. That is a spectacular success. I would never have dreamed it either.

Took the car out this morning for more sorting, out. Drove two miles out and two miles in. Let the car sit and then tried a restart. Hard cranking. Charged the battery for an hr. A little better. Drove another two miles out and two miles back. Let sit. Hard cranking and no start And the clutch slips under hard acceleration.
Tomorrow will adjust the clutch, check starter connections, and check timing.
Baby steps.

Installed the race numbers today. Not easy. Gives it more of the race car appearance. Will do the sides once I can move the car around

Bill,
Nice job. Yes, it is a pain in the a@@ putting those numbers on and getting them even. Using some masking tape to set the top and bottom borders helps, but it is still a PITA.

Thanks Glen. Only working a few gremlins out left to do. But it’s been raining so I can’t really dive it and test drive it
And merry Christmas

Congrats Bill. Looks amazing. Really, really nice.
Long, difficult journey but looks like the end result is worth it. Glad you stuck with it.

Got the driver’s side race numbers installed. Brutal because of the cold temps. Had to move the “XP” reference below to make work. The original Cobra had the number lights above the numbers and further forward and the car didn’t have the side louvers. I improvised. I think it still looks great.

Passenger side complete . It’s amazing how much improvement the race numbers make in the car’s appearance
