Bill,
Can you post some details of your exhausts?
ie what diameter pipes, type and size of muffler, how loud (street legal?), ground clearance ?
It's an area that I haven't looked at in detail for my car yet, so any info of yours would be helpful for my build.
Cheers!
Glen

I spent 20 minutes talking to Carbs Unlimited’s Weber tech about my running rich issue. After explaing what I’ve done and haven’t done, he just laughed and said that’s just how the carbs are shipped as a baseline. I have to switch out the main jets, idle jets and air correctors using (2) 737-248 Jet Packs ($100 each). Each jet pack services two carbs, hence, the need for two kits. Sigh
He said to start with replacing the air correctors from #120 that’s in there now with #190-200. Replace the main jet in the emulsion tubes (?) with a #145. Start the car allowing it to warm up. Then adjust the idle mix screws. Base line is 1-1/2 turns out. Ok I can do that.
Adjust the idle speed screws 1/2 turn in from touching the the linkage. Ok, I can do that too.
He‘s located in Arizona. I wish I had my trailer. I would just take it to him to do.
I‘m sure I’ll screw it all up, get frustrated and just cover it up.

It’s a process. It took me a couple years of doing & thinking about it. Make an adjustment, think bout it. Eventually you get there

Bill,
The emulsion tubes are the long tubes that you unscrew out of the carbs. The main jets are at the bottom of those tubes and are just hand pressed on to the tubes. You should see a number etched into the main jets. For curiosity sake, unscrew one and let us know what number is on the main jet.
I have some smaller jets in the 150-155 range that I bought that I will never use. If the 145's turn out to be too small, I will give you a real good deal on the next size up, if you need them.
I wish that I was closer Bill.
Jim

I found this picture of an emulsion tube and a diagram of a Weber carb. Ordered two jet packs today.
Let the fun begin!!

I finally got the engine running right but am having problems with the clutch. Can’t get it into gera with engine running. If I shut it down, and put it in gear it will start but wants to roll forward. I’ve tried adjusting it but still won’t work.
This is has been the most frustrating project in my whole life. I don’t have a lift so using jackstands is killing my knees.

I got the fuel system sorted, fixed my battery issue, and the clutch not disengaging and the SOB started up, roared like a recently awakened beast and drove her around the neighborhood. I will take her out each day and go a little further each time until I feel comfortable enough that it won’t break down.

Congrats Bill! Sometimes it just seems like nothing will work right, and then you step back, think about it and voila! The problem is fixed. Enjoy some late summer runs.

The battery issue was the dumbest thing I’ve ever done. I did nt start the car after I installed it earlier this year . So when I finally got around to starting it it wouldn’t crank. Nothing. Checked the voltage with my voltmeter - 0 volts. WTF.?
Put a battery charger on it for 4 hours. Tried again. Same…nothing.
So I just put the car aside and said **** it.
This week I took the battery out with plans to replace it. And taking it out is a real pits because it’s located in the engine bay in front of the pass footwell.
Well…..after removing the battery I found my issue.
I felt so stupid

Yep, pretty hard to get a good ground with the plastic cap over the negative terminal. Bill, we all have done similar things. Some people will not admit it, but we all have done things like that. You get tired or distracted and it is easy to forget to do something.

That made my day, Bill
We're not telling the truth if we don't acknowledge occasionally doing equally "dumb" things, my friend!
Cheers!

just returned from my longest outing in the Cobra today! Fabulous!! Put 10 miles on the car. Incredible sound, handling, and acceleration . Drove by a construction area by my house where they’re building new homes. As I approached they all turned and waved. I reved the engine for them Got home safely. After it cools down I’ll do a through check on everything. Odometer now has 44 miles

I have also don similar "moments of Ugg". When I upgraded my 67 Mustang to 4 wheel disc brakes, I could't figure out why I could not bleed the master cylinder. Turns out the filler cap on the reservoir had a cap in it that I had missed. Each time I put fluid in it, it spilled out. And I could not fill the system and bleed the air w/o fluid.

Was bored so went into the garage and decided I’d try and make a seal for the air box using left over FFR bulb seal. To make it one piece I had to snip the corners of the pinch portion. Then added a small piece of electrical tape in the rear where both ends met. What do you think?
