OK, so after the quick trial fit of the dash panel, might as well do a quick fit of the gauges that will slot in easily (ie not the bourdon tube temp gauges).....
Now to pull it all out again and attack the glovebox and glovebox lid.

A new addition
Looking good Mister Glen Almost as nice as my dash turned out You know how sometimes life throws you a curve? Well I was happy as a clam, with my (2) keeper cars (Cobra & V-8 Mazda Rx-7). All the other cars were for buying & selling, well long story longer. I get a call (last Thur.) from a gentlemen I dealt with 5 years ago about buying his rare Mustang, came to buy it and he got "Cold Feet" and backed out, well fine & forgotten, Well fast forward those 5 years, I now have to add to the collection a 1990 "CHP" (Black & White)California Highway Patrol Mustang Look them up on line. Granted it need to be restored, but at least I finally own it. A good friend has a Az. unmarked highway patrol (1989) Mustang, and will help with the restoration (3-4 year project) Wish me well Glen, I'll send pictures. Cheers Tommy.

There you go Glen, the "little Sleeper 7" is as close to stock looking as I can make it. I've had people come up at a show, and say did Ford & Mazda build this car? Here's a pic or two of the beast. The 7 will eat 911's for breakfast, and light the tires up in 3rd gear Funny you said a unmarked Police Force. Rob (The Snake Charmer, where my Cobra is being finished) has his 1987 AZ. Police Mustang and is unmarked, (And him being a retired Cop) still has light's siren, gun rack, etc. and is jealous of my Black & White, a cop thing I guess. Cheers my friend.

edit: I ordered it five days ago, and it came in today via Stansted (UK) / Liege / Singapore / Sydney / Adelaide.
If I send a letter from Adelaide to Canberra (our nation's capital) ....it can take ten days!!!

'Bumping' my thread....
No worthwhile pictures, but working slowly (it was just above freezing point here this morning) on the glovebox and lid. Life (other distractions!) goes on as well
The glovebox itself is quite bespoke because of a horizontal structural tube that cuts through the centre, so the shape has had to be tweeked (mucho) to eke out some usable space.
The lid is progressing; a lot of care required to give an even 5mm to 6mm gap all around so the the lid's leather beading will fit correctly over the gap.

Glovebox door. Not sure of the exact method of construction on the originals, but my end result should be close.
A bit of free-hand routing to fit the retaining nut and the slide/catch...
Catch and lock trial fit...

Dash - glovebox lid progress
Yeah, small steps, but at least they're forward
It's turning out quite well actually.
Note the Wild Woodbine tin.....my Grandfather's contribution. The tacks of his that I'm using would be at least back to '60s vintage....
The beading is the next step. I'm learning a lot....and most importantly, that speed is my enemy

"Re-routing" the glovebox lid
Forgot to include the thickness of the leather (just over 1mm) so had to machine slightly deeper for the glovebox door catch/lock and retaining nut so that the catch plunger would clear the nut. My headlight torch is dead, so had to rig up a temporary light. All good fun!

Progress on the 289's glovebox.
It's a bespoke design because of the proviously mentioned transverse structural tube, so ended up doing two iterations of the 'box.
Here's the first, at 330mm (13") wide...
Then realised that I could easily go wider withe the same mounting, so here's what v2 ended up looking like at 450mm (18") wide...
...and painted, ready to be bolted in...
More to follow on the lid.

By my recollection, Tom, those saw horses would be 40 years old; probably ten years ago I moved them outside of the garage and into the weather because I thought they might fall apart (they were hung on the wall)...onto the Alfa
They haven't disintegrated outside in the weather yet!!

Here's the rest of the picture story of the g'box lid....
Rear side complete except for the leathered rear-side cover...
Rear side with its cover screwed on. The cover is 16g alum. alloy sheet, leather covered. The non-fitted screw (hole) is for the leather retaining strap.
Here's the completed glovebox lid ready to be fitted...

Absolutely wonderful. Your methodical and meticulous craftsmanship is truly first rate. The glove box knob / latch is a nice touch. Now you will need some proper gloves for said glove box, I have no doubt that you will have something very appropriate indeed.
Looks like the dash will be complete fairly soon, what is the next item on your list?

Hi Tim,
Thanks for the comments. My dash is coming along quite nicely, and the glovebox has turned out as well as I'd hoped (and better than I'd expected ).
When I think of the originally supplied ABS flat bottomed dash panel, described as a "drop-centre dash".....
Here's the requested "glove" shot....
Quite amusingly, the glovebox strap I ended up with was the fourth iteration .
What's next? I'll be moving on to populating the dash as much as I can. Access to the rear of the dash is quite good, so not anticipating that to cause me excessive delays by doing that. After that, probably had better start under the hood. There's a lot of work to do there with sheet aluminium and also stainless sheet and insulation....and of course some work on the firewall.
