Default CSX 6079 build

I will start this thread now as I get my car in a few days. The car has been on denbeste motorsports cobra wall for 8 years. It is brand new car built in late 2011. A high tech CSX car built in the same plant as SPF. I have always been impressed with the paint job, fit & finish of the SPF cars, now I get the best of both worlds, the fit & finish of a SPF and a CSX car! I have closely inspected the early vegas cars, the later early 4000 series HST cars and the 6000 series Hi-tech CSX cars and lets just say I am impressed in the quality of the Hi-tech CSX car/chassis. After owning ERA 626 for 17 years I have set the bar very high. as the ERA car is amazing.
Here are some photos of the car as it sits at Denbeste.

Default Csx 6079

I am building a custom cross ram fuel injection manifold from Morrision in new zeland. the motor will be controlled by a mega squirt. The runners are placed in a way that there is no room for a distributor. So I we needed to build a cam sync sensor to tell the ECU if the motor is on intake or exhaust. MSD makes one for SBF but no one makes one for an FE so we needed to make one.
I bought a brand new MSD pro billet distributor and chopped the top off. Then I got a cam sync sensor from an F-150 and cut it up... at the end of the day this what we made. I am working with Neil Ruegsegger and Joe Felciano (shelby Engine Co.) on my 482 Engine build.

Looking good Mike. I cannot agree more about the fit and finish of the cars coming out of that factory. People at the races are just amazed at the paint and overall finish. Even fellow competitors tell me how beautiful the car is and that it is the best looking car on the track. I get a lot of, "You race that car?"

Good luck with your build.

Jim

Excellent -- what a great thread and a build that is a little different from the norm.

I love that color combo. I had two of the Barrett Jackson Shelby GTs in black with red stripes. Keeping them clean was a career. Not a hobby or a job, a career. After having them and when selling them my wife forbade me from ever having another black car. Even the British Racing Green was too dark to keep clean.

Default battery mount

First thing I did was remove the low pressure fuel pumps as I wont need them. Install the battery in the trunk

Default fuel tank

I am going with fuel injection so I decided to put the pump in the tank. This install I believe will eliminate fuel starvation issues under hard cornering and acceleration. While doing I discovered several problems with the car. I dont know what they were smoking while building this car but nonetheless I will fix it.

Who ever built the fuel tank did not account for the stupid location of the sender as the baffle on the bottom of the tank hit the sender so it would not fit. and whoever installed the sender just simply rotated it to a horizontal installation, which renders the sender useless. Also the sender only fits one way in the hole pattern and they stripped the screw while jamming it in. So the fuel gauge would have never worked and it would have leaked. SHM...Even if the sender did fit, in this location the fuel lever would read full until a half tank.
So I will need to relocate the sender.

The vent hose was kinked so bad it never would have worked either. Imagine the first time filling the fuel tank. Fuel spews in your face because the vent tube is kinked, the tank would have leaked because the idiot jammed the sender in the wrong way and the gauge would not have worked.

Nice car looks amazing but who ever did the final assembly did not give a sh!t.

Default part number

does any one here have a part number for me? I need a hose with a 90 degree bend in the end of it to prevent kinking.

7/8" OD
5/8" ID
about 36" long

The tubing doesn't look like special fuel type. When I needed a piece of hose I went to the local Car Quest (at the time) where they had lots of radiator type fittings "out in the open" and when I didn't find exactly what I was looking for I instead found a hose that had within it the shape and size I was looking for and just cut off the excess.

Sweet build. Love the blacked out rims.

Very curious to know your driving impressions of the csx vs the era after you put a few miles on it.

yea Im curious as well, so far The suspension components look nicer, the control arms, spindles, brakes etc. the steering rack and the steering u joints look a lot nicer, the rear end is a wash. The CSX car has a rear end with one shock and a tru track made by Kirkham. The ERA has a traditional jag setup with 2 shocks, inboard brakes. The sway bar on the ERA is a LOT bigger than the shelby.

I was never completely happy with the brakes on the ERA, the car would stop but I had to stand on it. The CSX has all willwood calipers & outboard brakes.

The ERA has the box chassis and the CSX of course has the round chassis.

I must say the ERA guys are excellent, the people who built my car are non existent. I am a gear head, so I can fix it, but if you want to buy a car and simply drop in a drive train dont get the shelby, get the ERA...

we will see

Default mock up

Have the motor mocked up, mounted the coils down low, as the intake will hide most of them.

Default pipes

the headers that came with the car will need to be modified to work, I will move them down 5/8" back 5/8". I have seen a lot of CSX cars that the pipes are way too far away from the body, I will likely fix this issue as well.
