One of the fun parts of driving a stick shift car is being able to heal-toe. Unfortunately on the ERA289 the brake pedal is too far from the throttle to facilitate heal toe braking. To fix this I got a much wider Sparco throttle pedal, bent it to the same curve as the top as the Cobra pedal and mounted it on the Cobra pedal offset as far as possible to the left. With a little adjusting to throttle and brake pedal height, heal toe is a snap.

Another ergonomic change I made this year was with the steering wheel. I had a leather wrapped version of the Mona Lita wheel and liked the substantial heft of the gripping area. I wanted an original wood Mona Lita but did not like the small diameter of the wood rim. I contacted Mona Lita and they made a wood wheel for me that is 1/8" thicker on the back side, looks totally original unless you know what to look for and feels much more substantial in the hand.

Wow it's cool they would do that. I thought the wheel was too thin too

It is actually a custom option.

Here is the hot tip of the century for ERA FIA owners !
I had a rattle in one of my mufflers, I cut the pipe off to see if I could find something loose inside that I could fix. When I got it apart I was shocked to find that the internal diameter of the muffler was only 1 5/8" and the 3" pipe was just butt welded to the muffler!!! I contacted Classic Chambered Exhaust about replacement mufflers, they can make pretty much any size and length you want. I ordered mufflers with their 2 1/2" core (2 1/4" ID) and a taper to blend the headpipe to the muffler. They can make a 3" ID, however they are unable to fit packing in a 3 1/2" OD muffler and it would be quite loud. I installed the mufflers and the difference was AMAZING. It is only a little louder, but has to be at least 50 more horsepower !!!
