Default Project Echis

So after getting my old car (Dodge Neon SRT-4) back on the road, she's officially "kicked out" of the Garage to make room for Project Echis.

Echis is the Greek word for Viper, it is also the family name of some of the most deadly snakes in the world (in particular: Saw Scaled Viper & Carpet Viper).

Current Plan:
Built 2.4L Engine (from SRT-4)
GT3576R Turbo
Tubular Turbo Manifold
Water to Air Aftercooler
Clutchmaster Twin Disc FX650 (1 FX700 disc and 1 FX600 disc)
Quicktime Performance SFI certified Bellhousing
Stock ECU w/ SCT Flash (bigger injectors, 3 bar MAP, ~7500rpm rev limit)
AEM FIC controller to control 2nd set of injectors*
MSD DIS-2 Programmable (better ignition managment + 2 step & anti-lag)
Ron Davis Racing Radiator
Tubular Chassis
Mustang II based front suspension (probably from Art Morrison)
Triangulated 4 link rear suspension (probably from Art Morrison)
Ford 9" Rear
- 35 spline 1.5" axles (possibly gun drilled)
- ARB Air locker (open diff for the street, spool for the track)
- 3.73 ~ 4.11 gears (haven't decided yet)

That's the basics.

*Note on the 2nd set of injectors:
The idea is to run stock or Stage 2 injectors from the stock ECU pumping in 91 oct pump gas.
The 2nd set of injectors will be controlled by the AEM FIC and pump in straight Methanol.
Between the higher "octane" rating of Methanol and it's cooling effect, I should be able to run race-gas like boost on "pump gas."
I'm also considering E85/Ethanol or E85/Methanol as an alternative to PumpGas/Methanol.

On to the pictures:

So I hit my first snag; this image will help explain what I'm running into.

Basically the unsplined portion of the input shaft (where the input shaft to crankshaft bushing would go) is too long.

I currently have an adapter plate that is 3/8" thick, and after doing some measuring the input shaft is about 3/8" too long as it hits the "bottom" of the crankshaft.

I can remake the adapter plate using 3/4" thick material, but the problem is then the splined part of the shaft would be making very little, if any contact with the clutch disc closest to the engine. (Figure 1 of the image above)

So I'm thinking my 2 options are:

1. Leave the adapter plate alone and have the input shaft shortened ~1/2" (leaving 1.125" of the unsplined part)

2. Leave the transmission alone, use a thicker adapter plate, and a thicker flywheel (about 5/8" thicker) to move the clutch discs away from the engine. (Figure 2 on the above image)

I'm leaning toward #2 right now, if it is possible, I've sent a message to Clutchmasters to find out...

Well change of plans. I will not be doing this project.

If anyone in the South West is looking for a Fiberglass Cobra Body, let them know I have one for sale. $2500 -- it's what I paid for it, I'll even deliver if it's within reasonable driving distance for me (I'm in Phoenix, Az).
