Mystery cobra

After searching this site I still can not figure out who made my car frame and body...The guy I bought it from said he had it for a whyle and was unsure who made it. My best guess is it is a shell valley kit being that most of the boxes of parts are from shellvalley , I sent pictures to shell valley and they are not even sure if it is theirs! Compared to other cobras mine has a wierd rear suspension. Or one that I have yet to find... Please help!

Could it be a Midstates, which was bought out by Shell Valley? Are the inner panels fiberglass instead of aluminum? Midstates was.

Yes if you are asking about the body the whole thing is fiberglass.

Post some pics of the chassis (and body). Someone will be able to figure out who manufactured it.

Not a Midstates. The body is wrong at the rear fenders for a Midstates and they also have a molded-in hood scoop. Midstates also does not have the triangular "gussets" at the rear corners of the hood opening. The frame is also not right for a Midstates. Looks like home-made to me.

Pictures in my gallery. The frame could be home made, the person I purchaced the parts from builds ford roadsters for a living. However the welds seem too perfect unless someone had serious skills! With the exception of the rear end, I found a old shell valley that was almost the same.

If that is a Shell Valley, it must be quite old. I got mine around 1992 and the frame in your pictures seems to pre-date that or come from a completely different source. The rear suspension on mine is a triangulated 4-bar with billet aluminum trailing arms that reach back to the axle at an angle. Thus, there is no panhard bar to locate the axle laterally. Your picture clearly shows a transverse bar. The rear coilovers on mine are situated at an angle, rather than straight vertical such as in the picture. The hood cutout in the pictured body has the triangular gussets at each of the back corners-unlike my early 90's SV car. My hood scoop is integral to the hood, not attached to it. I would be surprised if this is a Shell Valley.

Kinda looks like it's homemade.

229guy 12-05-2008 01:54 PM

Im not sold on the homemade yet!

With the 4 link set up and J-bar, no matter who built it, it should work real well. Saw alot of setups like that when I raced dirt cars. Have fun with it.

Thanks, now I just have to figure out the front end!

I posted the hinge photos, Hopefully this is a giveaway to who made the body? Man those are ugly hinges!

My bet is the guy in Kansas who was building his own frames and had a "6th party body mold dating back to 1982". He sells these things on Ebay (usually frame and body for less than $3,500) suckering people left and right with "build your cobra for cheap by starting out with my frame and body"....... Don't see one of his "deals" listed right now, but next time I do I'll pot it up.

I think you're talking about that guy where Patrick got his body from. Those bodies don't the raised dimples for the front turning signals.

to me it looks like a U S Body...body especially going by the hood.
